Hythe Under 11's vs O.T's & Romsey
Played @ Houndsdown School
| Under 11's Bow Out With a Decent Peformance vs Champions O.T's |
Hythe's team of 2 eight year olds & 4 ten year olds put in a good effort against Champions O'T's & Romsey before goping down by 6 wkts on Friday evening. Hythe bow out of the competition but next year - watch out.
O.T's won the toss and elected to field first. Hythe without Daniel Duell & Alfie Pates opened with captain Catlin Smith and leading batsman Ben Jones who was told to stay there for the entire 10 overs. Sadly though after Ben hit the 3rd ball for six - he had a rush of blood and tried it agin and was caught with the 6th ball of the game. Hythe 12-1 after 1. Josh Mews second over went for just 6 and his brother Jai did even better when his 3rd over went for just 2. Hythe needed runs but Caitlin and Cameron Ovendon were struggling to get the ball away.
4th over however Caitlin hit Abigail Trodd for four. Hythe 28 for 1 after 4. Five came off the next over thanks to two wides. Fuller returned to bowl just a wide in the 6th - Hythe 35 for 1. No real progress in the next two overs but in the 8th Caitlin was run out after a wrong call by Cameron for 14. Monty Gilbert was then stumped by Wathen after drifting from his crease and Hythe were 49 for 3.
Ovendon was then run out himself for 1 - Andrew Besley was bowled by Jai Mew for 5 and Hythe finished on 58 for 5 with Dan Jones 0*.
With not as lot to defend a Cailtin misfield spoilt a good first over from Dan Jones - 6 off inc a Mew boundary. Ovendons next over went for 2 wides (5 off) and Besley did similar in the 3rd - O.S's 17 for 0 after 3. The skippers next over went for 3 wides and Monty's 5th over for 11 though he came the closest to anyone in getting a wicket.
Dan Jones returned to bowl the 6th but Jai Mew hit him for 4 in a 6 run over. Andrew Besley produced a good bit of fielding to stop another Mew boundary. Camerons 6th over went totally wrong and inc 4 wides. 9 off - O.T's 44 for 0 after 6. Besley was hit for a 3 and 4 in the next over and the winning runs came at the start of the 9th - O.T's win by 6 wkts. Hythe's best bowling figures Besley & Jones 0-12 off 2.
So Hythe finish bottom of the table and miss out on the play-off's but if these guys stick together watch out next season.
