| Hythe 2's vs Whalesmead Thistle |
| Whalesmead Thistle Prove To Be a Thorn In Our Side |
The Colonal Report :
It was our day of reckoning. Four points needed for promotion. So it was up to the captain to strengthen the side and bring in Martin Duell for Zac Millar. Zac had double booked himself with his monthly nail appointment. After the previous weeks embarrassment of getting out to a girl (again) he was maybe playing forward defences in the mirror at home.
With the toss won again by the clubs greatest tosser, Hythe elected to field. Hythe opened up with the Langdown locomotive, Martin Duell followed by the Rottweiler, Archie Gilbert. A good start, however some poor fielding let us down. Whalesmead got going by Tongs' two full tosses slapping the back wall like a step father would to a red haired step child. Whalesmead didn’t spring into life until the last two overs and recorded an average 122-5. The highlight being only two wide's and one no ball throughout the innings, Saunders picking up a couple of wickets. The four points were however secure.
Hythe started off with the 'enforcer' Gilbert and 'Silverback' James. With Archie eyeball to eyeball to their 6'5 skipper Noble, he saw him off, Kev then got a dubious full toss that should have been called a no ball but with a beat of his chest he walked off. That brought in our own Steven Finn to steady the ship. Archie soon followed and in came skipper protecting his 29 average. A moment of controversy occurred in the overs 7&8. Did our scorer make a few mistakes in the scoring, Carol Vorderman he aint but at least he offered to do it to avoid points deduction. I'll have one from the top Nick and five others.
Tongs and Saunders chipped away at the total until the penultimate over when Saunders was run out for 21. Duell went next ball for a duck but a brave chase ended 2 runs short, Guru run out for 26. The main priority of promotion secured. Barring a miracle it will be Hythe v Hythe next year and with Zac our 7th man we have a strong team. Hopefully Archie will keep up the weights and karate training and no one will want to face us . Well done men on a good season.
Man of the season – Archie Gilbert
Knob of the year – Zac Millar
Moment of the year – Zac Millar out to a girl
Excuse of the season -Guru –'I'm hitting it to straight!'
Thanks to Chiv for scoring, a legend. Also to Steve Millar, Nick Gilbert and Jacqui (Zac's mum) for support, even Steve's quips whilst I was batting!
