Mead Returns But O.T's Too Good
Not even the return of Josh Mead or the inclusion of the two Matt's could prevent an easy win for Division 2 Champions O.T's & Romsey 2's over Hythe last night. Hythe di well to restrict O.T's to their lowest total of the season 133-4. Josh Mead returning fine figures of 1-18 off 3. Hythe were shot out for 49 in reply and now fave Michelmersh & Tims 'B' in the Plate Quarter-Finals in a fortnight.

Hythe 3's vs O.T's & Romsey 2's

Champions Just Too Good

With the indoor league complete it was down to the cup competition and with several regulars over at Fleming Park - Hythe included Matt Howe, Matt Young, Tony North & Josh Mead. Unfortunately once again O.T's were far too strong an came out winners by 84 runs.

Gareth Mead once again won the toss and had no hesitation in putting the Div 2 champs into bat. The Hythe bowlers did well and got an early wicket when Matt Howe bowled Smith for 3 in only the second over. However that brought J.Whytehead & G.Flack together and the back wall started to take some hammering. By the end of the 4th over O.T's were 49 for 1 with Ali Bryers 2 overs being spoilt by two Whytehead sixes. Howe was 1-21 after 2 thanks to Flack who hit him for a 4 & 6 in his 2nd over. Having said that Hythe's protection of the back wall wasn't good.

At 59-1 Whytehead retired - his 25* inc 2x6, 1x4. Flack then retired with the score on 76 in the 6th over. Flacks 25* inc 2x6, 2x4. Josh Mead was now into the attack and pulling the game back a little - His second over went for just 1. Matt Youngs first over went for 16 as R.Newman opened up but at the start of the 9th over Mead had Collins caught by North for 8. O.T's 85 for 2. Mead finished with 1-18 off 3 overs which earned praise from the O.T's lads. In an eventful 10th over 17 runs were added but Hythe collected the wicket of R.Newman caught by Gareth Mead off Young for 22. Next over Bryers had P.Newman caught by Matt Howe for 8.. Whytehead returned to add another six and four. O.T's finishing on 133 for 4. (their smallest score of the season)

captained a Hythe side which included George Sanderson on debut. Meado's first job was to win the toss and ask the runaway leaders to bat first. Hythe needed a good start but Whytehead and Collins had other ideas. Three boundarys in the first Bryers over put 14 on the board after 1 over. The Colonal forgot his compass and went for two wides in a 10 run second over - O.T's 24 for 0 after 2.

18 off Bryers second over included a Whytehead six and Collins 4 - 42 off 3. Another 12 came off Saunders 4th over. Whytehead had done enough to retire 26* in the middle of the 5th - A decent over Tongs going for 8. Meado switched to Kev McCarthy for the 6th - but 16 off including 2 wides unusual for Kev. 78 for 0 at the half way stage the Romsey Youth were predicting 180+.

7th over saw 11 off Tongs - Flack smashed Kev for a six off a 15 run 8th over. Collins was eventually run out by McCarthy in the 9th - Flack retired in the 10th after hitting Guru for a four. Sanderson brought into the attack in the 11th - wished he hadn't as 17 came from his only over. Saunders returned for the final over - Newman hit a six before retiring 26* - next ball Jordan was left stranded - run out by the colonal for 0. O.T's 154 for 2 - Tongs 0-27 off 3 the pick of the Hythe bowling.

Hythe opened with Tongs & Sanderson - Tongs hitting the first boundary in the first over 10 off 1. A very good Tulk second over saw just 4 come from inc a Sanderson 3. 7 more off the 3rd - Hythe 21-0 off 3. A Tongs six helped the score along to 30 before Tulk had Sanderson caught for 8. Flack bowled the 5th over which saw Sam Mead run out without scoring just 2 off the over Hythe 30 for 2 off 5.

Flack returned to see Saunders bowled for a quack in the 7th -Tongs retired at 47 for 3, Bryers opened up to hit Collins for a six in a good 11th over for Hythe but Collins got revenge bowling Bryers for a good 17. The innnigs ended in some cheer - as Super Kev hit a rare six to finish 7* The Guru finished 25* - Hythe 88 for 4 at the close - well short.
