Hythe Under 11's vs O.T's & Romsey
Played @ Houndsdown School
| Woodsy's Half Century Can't Save Under 11's |
Not even Woodys half century of arm flapping could save Hythe Under 11's from defeat against unbeaten O'T's & Romsey on Friday evening.
In normal Friday evening fashion - things got off to the worst possible start when Caitlin was absent because of football extra-time and an accident on the bypass meant the lads for the second week running had no warm up time. O.T's won the toss and surprisingly asked to field first against 5 man Hythe.
The game started well for Hythe - 2 well run 3's in the first four balls plus a wide. But then the adrenaline rush took in and Ben said yes, Alfie said no, Ben kept running and Alfie went backwards. Ben Jones run out for 4. Hythe 12-1 after the first over. Two balls into the 2nd over Pates had a rush to the head and was stumped by Wathen off Josh New for 4.
Jai New's 3rd over saw 4 wides come from it - which then surprisingly filtered into the O'T's team. In fairness the the O.T's coach (who is also the New Forst coach) was definately the most strict in giving leg side wides than we've seen all season. But he was fair to both sides. Woodsy however felt he had to follow suite and his arms kept coming out of his pockets. Daniel Duell with the instruction to stay there because we only had 5 players - did his job well ending with 3* whilst Cameron Ovendon dug in well and finished on 4*. The rest of the runs came from the O.T's bowlers as Woodsy brought up his fifty in the final over signalling no less than 5 wides. Hythe 83 for 2 off 10 overs - their highest score.
So with one man less in the field Hythe still had a good chance of an upset - you would think. But the same new ball that the game started just kept swinging - Dan Jones first over went for 15 inc a Wathen boundary. Next over Dan Duell went for 11 as Jai New hit his first boundary. Alfie Pates came on only to suffer as well with 3 no balls. A Wathen four meant Pates went for 12 off his first over. O.T's cruising at 38 for 0. Cameron Ovendon's 4th over was the best so far - just 9 off inc another Wathen boundary. Next over Wathen reached 22* with a three and had to retire. Dan Jones over going for 10. 6th over though and Hythe fought back - Duell bowling Jai Mew for 16. Pates then had Finn Holden well caught by keeper Ben Jones for 1 - O.T's 65 for 2 off 6.1 but the rest of Alfie's over went for 3-wides and 2-no balls. O.T's 75 for 7. Duell's next over went for just 6 but with just 2 to win Ovendons first ball wide of the 9th saw victory. O.T's 84 for 2 with 11 balls remaining
A good effort from the Hythe lads who normally bowl better than this and may be could have challenged the O.T's lads.
