| Hythe 3's vs Bramshaw 'B' |
| Hythe Surprise League Officials with 6 Wkt Win |
Hythe 3's put in their best performance of the season with a 6 wkt win opver second place Bramshaw 'B'
Hythe Skipper Gareth 'Tug' Mead won the toss and had no hesitation in asking Bramshaw to bat first. Guru was asked to open the bowling for the first time since the late eighties and he rewarded his skipper with the opening wicket - bowling Josh Arnold for 1. Six coming from the first over. Ali Bryers was up next - two wides spoiling a good over 9 from - Bramshaw 15 for 1 after 2. Guru was rewarded with the 3rd over but Lymington's S.King managed 8 off the over including the first boundary of the day. Bryers back for the 4th - and a wicket !!! J.Mason bowled for 5 - Bramshaw 25 for 2.
Aggresive things were expected from Kev McCarthy in the 5th over - the poor chaps been suffering from cronic tooth ache since Friday. Just 5 off the over 33-2. Bryers completed his overs bowling the sixth ( good job getting them in early seeing what was to come later) - 4 off the over & figures of 1-18 off 3 a good spell. King hit McCarthy to the boundary in the 7th bringing up his retirement 25*. That brought the veteran Ben Arnold to the crease. Sam Mead was introduced for the 8th over after Lenny Duell decided he couldn't bowl (hip problem from Zumba). Sams first ball went for 6 courtesy of Pinkney - 14 off the over. Bramshaw 58-2 off 8.
Kevs final over & the 9th went for 13 as Arnold started to let loose with 2x 6's off the last 3 balls. Mead removed Pinkney bowling him for 10 and a tidy over saw just 6 added to the score. The penultimate over bowled by the Guru started with a single but then Arnold opened up again for 2 more sixes. Guru then had King well caught by Sam Mead for 29 leaving Arnold to bat on his own because the young 11 year old D.Mason only wanted to field.
Arnold continued the assault in the final over hitting Meado for 3x6's in consecutive balls but Meado had the last laught - Arnold wholing out to Tongs for 46. Bramshaw 110 all out with 2 balls remaining. A good performance by Hythe in the field. Two very good catches - only 19 in wides/no and Tug kept a clean sheet behind the stumps.
With 10 an over Hythe went out optimistic especially as dad Arnold couldn't bowl because of a shoulder problem. Tug & the Guru opened the batting - 16 off the first two overs a good start. Mason's 3rd over went for 12 with the Hythe veterans even running 2x3's. The usually reliable Josh Arnold his 4th over was a disaster for Bramshaw - as Tug hit the first two balls for a four & six. 3 wides followed 20 off the over. Hythe 48 for 0 after 4.
Mason finished his spell with 10 runs coming off inc another boundary for the Tug. Lymo's King was introduced for the 6th over a single and a six saw skipper Gareth Mead retire 30* @ 65-0. Pinkney bowled a decent 7th over with 8 off but King's 9th saw Guru explode to his retirement with 2x4's & six 27* - 22 off and Hythe closing in @ 98 for 0. With this young D.Mason was introduced Meado showed him no respect at all hitting the winning runs with two sixes. Guru finished 27* & Sam Mead 15*.
A good win for Hythe and a win in their final game against Braisfield will take them out of the bottom two.
