1's Final Ball Win - But Did We !!!
Following Hythe 'B's tie earlier in the evening Hythe 'A' had an even more dramatic game later on. The Uni 'C' side were bowled out for 114 (Ozzie Shaikh 2-28) Hythe in reply started well 68 for 1 off 7 but wickets fell and Hythe needed 7 going into the final over. By the final ball Hythe thought they needed 1 to win but as the bowler came into bowl the Uni scorer said it was 2. Matt Young 22* hit what he thought was a winning single but was it !!!!.

Hythe 1's vs Southampton University 'C'

Stewards Enquiry - Final Ball Win For 1's

As it currently stands Hythe 1's beat the Uni 'C in a last ball nailbiter - but did we !!!

Matt Young won the toss and elected to field first against the Uni 'C' side who got off to a lightening start as Ozzie's first over went for 14 followed by a Fonzy 11 run over. J.Dawson the main culprit as he hit two sixes in the first 12 balls. Mike Bowman was called into early action and a decent over saw just 7 come from it plus a wicket - Fonzy catching Ali Khan for 5. Uni 'C' 32 for 1 off 3 overs.

Fonzy returned for a 13 run - 4th which could have had a stumping but for Dave Guymer struggling to move the weight from his arse into a step forward - sorry Dave but I said i'd mention it. One consulation for Hythe though - Dawson getting to retiring 26* very quickly. Mike Bowman's 5th over saw just 9 added to the score - Uni 'C' 54 for 1 off 5. Time for spin and Jack KO brought into the attack - 3 wides helped 10 off the over. Skipper Matt Young got off to a good start in the 7th having Mills run out by Bowman for 3 but the rest of the over didn't go so well as the Uni boys added another 18 (not helped by a wide 6 & 4.). JKO's first over must have been good - the skipper gave him another and he had Stevens well caught by Matt Young for 9. Uni 'C' 86 for 3 which was soon for 4 when Fonzy had Gill caught by JKO for 9.

Ozzie returned only to be hit for a 4 & 6 by the returning Dawson but next ball he was well caught by Dave Guymer for 36. Uni 'C' 104 for 5 after 10. Bowman pulled up after 3 balls of the 11th over the skipper took over & just 4 off the over. Maybe we should split overs more often !!! Final over and just 1 scored by last man Wooding before he was bowled by Shaikh for 3 - Uni 'C' 114 all out.

11 an over needed should have been fairly straight forward but the Uni got off to a good start - Ali Khan's first over went for just 2. Nine came of Gills 2nd over Hythe 11 for 0 after 2. A Fonzy boundary & two wides helped Hythe to 14 off the 3rd over bowled by Ali. Fonzy hit Gill for another boundary in the 4th over but last ball was bowled by Gill for 14 - Hythe 34 for 1 after 4. That brought the promoted Ozzie Shaikh to the crease. A wide 6 and a wide 3 helping Hythe to a 14 run 5th over off Wooding. Dansons next over went for just 9 including another wide 6. Stevens was brought into the attack in the 8th over Shaikh followed up a run 3 with a boundary. Hythe 67 for 1 off 7.

Danson returned to see Shaikh run out for 8 as just 8 came off the over. Stevens then had Guymer caught by Mills for 14 - Hythe wobbling at 78 for 3 in the 8th over. Matt Young and JKO then added 15 in Dansons 10th over and by the end of the Ali Khan 11th the score had moved onto 108. First ball of the final over Knight-Owen was judged LBW to Gill for 9 which brought in the limping Mike Bowman. Two dots meant Hythe needed 7 off 3 . A wide was followed by a dot ball Bowman then managed to run a 3 meaning Hythe needed 1 off the final ball to win (by my reckoning to which Ozzie informed the skipper) Just as the bowler was coming upto bowl the Uni scorer said its 2 to win causing confusion but the was bowled for Matt to hit the winning single or was it !!! The Uni 'A' & 'B' players and scorer on the balcony didn't think so but their score sheet said differently. I've told the league that in future the electronic scoreboard needs to kept upto dat every ball then maybe this confusion wouldn't have happened.
