| Hythe 2's vs Peartree Wasps |
| 2nds Wide Of The Mark |
Hythe 2's put in a brave shift before going down to Division 1 title chasers Peartree Wasps.
With what seemed years since our last indoor game Hythe 2nd's were back at Fleming Park to face division one high flyers Peartree. After the first teams debacle it was up to us to save face. With an unchanged side Hythe won the toss and elected to field first. Kev James started with a wide which set the tone for the first four overs, Peartree scoring 60 off them. Things did get better however with a steady flow of wickets, one each for Millar, Saunders, Kev Mac and Guru. Just as we thought we had a chance a bizarre wide that went for nine summed up our day. Hythe fielded like they had all just had strokes. Maybe the skipper will regret calling back Ayling for a run out that was given despite Kev Mac breaking the stumps before collecting the ball. Overall it was a shocking first half with Guru the pick of the bowlers with a still expensive 1-39 off 3.
Hythe opened up with the veteran pairing of Guru and James Snr. Up first for Peartree was Kelvin Sequira, one of the quicker bowlers on the indoor circuit but his overs went for 28 with Guru playing him well. However Kev went early and a direct hit leaving Zac five meters short, we were up against it. Big Arch also fell cheaply. Hythe 59-3 off 6. Saunders in at 5 and in tandem with Guru kept the runs ticking over to salvage some pride. Guru fell in the 10th over for a hard earned 23. Then came Kev Mac to shore up the innings and at an unbroken stand of 17 with Saunders realised a credible final score of 111. Saunders finishing on 29 no thanks to some cross bat fours and phonetic running. Who knows but without all those wides we would, in my belief, have been a match for Peartree. The first team if promoted will hold their own and I'm now confident that we will do well in division two. There's nothing to be scared of up in division one as our final total suggests. If I can get runs then I'm sure the batsmen of Howe, Young and Guymer can. Well done lads but a blessing in disguise as we can now go on and win the league without any distractions. M.O.M - A Gilbert. (He said so or he'll beat me up).
