Hythe U11's v Totton & Eling 2

Friday 11th January 2013

Played @ Houndsdown School

Hythe Under 11's are back in with a shout to reach the play-off's after a 5 wkt win over Totton & Eling who previously beat the young Green Caps by 6 Wkts. Before the game Jim the organizer was asking if we were ok not to re arranged the game we pulled out of in December because their was little chance of us reaching the play-off's - Now Woodsys lads have given him a puzzler.

T&E won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first after seeing Hythe had rested big hitter Daniel Duell. T&E scored 8 off Caitlin's first Hythe over. Dan Jones earned applause from the crowd for his second over which went for just 2 runs. Two sinlgles came off Andrew Besley's third over combined with a wide and no ball added 6 to the total. - T&E 16-0 off 3.

Skipper Alfie Pates then bowled the 4th over which resulted in 10 runs - Taylor & Carty running two well run 3's. Monty Gilbert joined the attack with a good first over - just a wide and a single coming off. Hythe helped by umpire Woodsy struggling to get his hands out of his pockets to signal wides were doing well. T&E only 29-0 at the half way stage.

Dan Jones bowled the 5th over which following a Carty 4 Jones claimed the first wicket when Monty Gilbert superbly caught Taylor off the wall with a one handed catch. Taylor out for 7. Next over Alfie Pates bowled Carty for 11 - with a peach of a ball - T&E 36 for 2. That brought in the big hitting M.Arjun who hit Andrew Besley's next over for a big six and a four. 49 for 2 off 8. With Woodsy now telling the Hythe lads to keep the big hitter off strike Caitlin bowled the penultimate over and second ball bowled J.Austin for 0. Just seven came off the over and Monty Gilberts final over went for 9 - T&E finished 64 for 3 after 10 overs. A great effort by the Hythe youngsters who bowled just 8 wides and 3 no balls - a vast improvement on previous games. Dan Jones 1-6 off 2 overs the pick of the bowlers though Monty's catch tops the highlight reel.

Hythe opened with Alfie Pates & Ben Jones whilst T&E decided to hold back their main opening bowlers. Morgans first over went for 9 inc a well run 3 by the Hythe pair. Next over from Moody the Hythe pair run 2x3's - 7 off the over - Hythe 16 for 0 after 2. Arjun then came into the attack (last time out he went for just 2 in 2 overs) but this time 6 came off his first over and after Carty's 4th over went for 11 - Hythe were 33 for 0 after 4. Hythe were really impressive between the wickets and 2 x 3's came off T&E Skipper Taylor's next over before he hit back by bowling Pates for 13. Hythe 40 for 1 at the half way stage.

That brought the entertaining Monty Gilbert to the crease. No one sees the chance of a single like Monty and no one certainly gets away with it like him. Couldn't have learnt it from his coach we call run an over Millar (normally the last ball). Morgan bowled the 7th over which resulted in 2 wides and a sharpe !!!! run 3 by Ben Jones thanks to Monty. 8 then came off the next over from Moody which included another Ben Jones 3 which was then followed by a Monty Gilbert boundary and two wides - Hythe 59 for 1 off 7. Arjun returned with a good over - though Monty somehow got through for a 3 that no one else would go for and then a wide saw five off the over. A Carty bye off the second ball of the 9th over and Hythe had won with 10 balls remaining. Ben Jones finishing 18* Monty Gilbert 4*.

A very good win and a tougher challenge next week when they face leaders O.T's & Romsey.
