Hythe Under 11's vs Wellow & Plaitford

Played @ Houndsdown School

Hythe Under 11's first game in a month showed as they went down by 5 wkts at the hands of Wellow & Plaitford. This despite an opening partnership of 46 between Daniel Duell 20* & Ben Jones.

Wellow won the toss and asked Hythe to bat first. Things couldn't have started any better when Daniel Duell & Ben Jones ran a first ball four. 11 came off the first over and by the end of the 2nd - Hythe were 21-0 after Duell hit the first back wall boundary. A decent over by W.Bethal saw just 7 come from the 3rd over - Duell then hit his second boundary in the 4th over - Hythe 36-0. Ben Jones meanwhile was adding runs by cleverly working out which balls to leave and those to play, Three wides and a 3 saw Duell retiring for a very good 20* (much to his disappointment).

Next over Wellow brought themselves into the game with two quick wickets. Ben Jones needlessly run himself out when going well 10, then next ball Alfie Pates was caught of the wall for 3. Hythe 47-2 off 6. Another 8 runs came off the 7th over followed by a 11 run 8th over including a Caitlin 3. Unforttunately the final two overs produced just 5 runs and Hythe finished on 71 for 2 a big improvement on the last game.

Dan Jones opened the bowling for Hythe charging in to the creasewith great enthusiam but Woodsy had to slow him down as the first 3 balls went for wides. 10 off the first over followed by a good Caitlin Smith 2nd over which saw a wicket for Hythe !!! - S.Ryan well caught behind by Ben Jones for 0. Unfortunately Alfie Pates first over included 3 no balls and a wide and by the end of the 3rd over W&P were 24-0. Monty Gilbert bowled a good 4th over just 7 from Dan Duell was doing well with the 5th until W.Bethal hit him for a big six. W&P 42-1 off 5.

Hythe then lost their way from then on with the ball - Alfie's next over was an improvement on his first but still went for 9 - that was followed by Caitlin's which went for 12 inc 3 wides. The score had moved onto 65 for 1 very quickly off 7. Three wides in Dan's next over and a 3 for Bethal score the winning runs with 13 balls remaining. Bethal finishing on 18*, Barren 11*.

Hythe as always enthusiastic in the field and remembering their a year under ( and some 2 years) under the age group did very well. 2014 they'll win this league if they keep going.
