| Hythe 3's vs Bramshaw 'B' |
| A Game That Got Away |
Hythe 3's suffered a 6 run defeat at the hands of Bramshaw 'B' on Sunday - A game they should really have won.
With unavailability again the key - Hythe had to fil their side with players from the 2's side. Should have made it 'a must win game then' but no threw it away.
Jack KO won the toss and with a big smerk on his face said 'we'll field first'. Rob Saunders opened the bowling with a wide and then 4th ball 'Lenny' Duell spills one through his legs for four - good start. Kev McCarthy's first over went for 8 followed by a decent JKO over for 9 - Bramshaw 27 for 0 off 3. The 4th over by super Kev started with a wide then Josh Arnold smashed him for a six. Kev got revenge next ball having him well caught by Saunders for 17 - Bramshaw 39-1 off 3.
Nine came off JKO's 5th over followed by a good over from 'The Guru' just seven off - which would have been better but for a Saunders misfield four. The Bramshaw pait of King & Pinkley added an unbeaten 37 before King had to retire 27*. Shortly afterwards Kev McCarthy had Ben Arnold caught by Tongs for 5 - Bramshaw 81-2 off 9 Overs. 19 then came off the next two overs and in the final Saunders over Pinkley hit two sixes to take the score to 118 before J.Mason was out on the final ball stupmed by Millar off McCarthy for 0
Bramshaw 118 for 3 - for Hythe 35 extras and several mis fields didn't help the cause.
Hythe opened with Tongs and Duell. 22 coming off 3 overs before Lenny Duell was run out for 2. At the half way stage the scores were identical 55 a piece with Zac going well. Next over though he spooned one back to the bowler ct & bd for 20 (inc 1x4, 2x6's). Guru retired with the score on 87 in the 9th shortly afterwards Saudners after smashing a six - run himself out for 9 trying to up the pace. 12 balls left Hythe still needed 28. McCarthy & JKO picked up 3's on the first two balls but then Arnold bowled McCarthy with the 4th. Tongs returned a wide was then followed by JKO being run out for 3. Last over 17 needed - great challenge for the Hythe legend. Two King wides meant Hythe now needed 11 off 6 legitamate balls. Guru then smashed King for four but next ball knocked one back to the bowler - Hythe all out for 112. Tongs finished on 30 (inc 4x4's).
But there is a small secret to this game. When Bramshaw's Pinkley hit his penultimate 6 it took him to 26* but we couldn't bang the window in time to tell the umpire/batsman and he carried on to hit the next ball for six retiring on 32*. Was that the six that won Bramshaw the game.
