Hythe Under 11's vs Langley Manor
Played @ Houndsdown School
| Brave Effort From Daniel Not Enough To Beat The Manor Boys |
Hythe Under 11's difficult fixture against last seasons Under 9 champions Langley Manor got off to the worst possible start when Brynn Miles didn't show. However thanks to 20* from Danile Duell (inc a six) Hythe got to within 14 runs of their target after Langley set Hythe 87 to win.

The home side elected to bat first and generously provided Woodsy's young side with a sixth fielder. Without Ben Jones, Cameron Ovendon bravely volunteered to play behind the stumps. LM with four players from last years indoor side started well scoring 15 off the first two overs. In the 3rd though Alfie Pates bowled M.Kimberley for 0 - LM 18-1. M.Bradley & B.Griffin played some nice shots both scoring running 3's off the wall. Just when they seemes settled - Alfie Pates struck again running out Griffin for 6. At the half way stage LM had moved onto 35 for 2.
With experienced pair of Bradley & Ponring at the crease the runs began to flow. Hythe were helping the LM score with wides & no balls caused by the winter rust. Hythe di however get one more wicket when the sub fielder run out Ponting for 15. 86 for 3 the final score with Bradley 17*. For Hythe Monty Gilbert the best of the Hythe bowling - just 13 off his two overs whilst Dan Jones bowled 10 dor balls in 18 balls bowled - good effort.
After a quick turn around five man Hythe opened with Daniel Duell & Alfie Pates but three balls in and Hythe were in trouble as Pates was bowled by Ponting for 1. 8 came off the second over as Cameron looked comfortable aginst Westall. 3rd over though and LM's best bowler M.Bradley struck having Ovendon very well caught behind by Griffin for 4. Hythe 17 for 2 at the end of 3 overs. A wide & a single came off Kimberley's 4th over and when patient play from Gilbert took 10 off Green's 5th over Hythe were 30 for 2 off 5 just 5 runs off LM at the same stage.
Things got better for the green caps as Duell hit Westall for six and 12 came off the 6th over. That prompted Bradley back into the attack and first ball of the 7th over he caught & bowled Gilbert for 3. Next ball Dan Jones was bowled and Hythe were 42 for 4 with Duell left to bat on his own. 10 came off Green's 8th over folowed by 5 off the 9th. Hythe still needed 26 with one over to go. Helped by 3 no balls the over went for 12 - the final ball Duell hitting for 4 to bring up his 20* a really good effort. Hythe ending 72 for 4.
Hopefully by the next time the two sides play Hythe will be back to full strength and there's no reason why they cannot surprise Langley Manor with a win.
