Division 2

Sunday October 28th 2012

It was a 9.15 start on the graveyard shift for the Warriors at Eastleigh. Two changes to the side in Kev James and Alex Nicholas in for Zac Millar (sore bum) and Archie Gilbert (suspension for foul langague). After finding the Coopervision skipper and exchanging banter in one of the strangest tosses ever! "If I win the toss and win I'll let you know later, if you win you can decide what you want to do. "Well thank you Muhammad but it doesn't work like that I'm afraid! After quoting rule 3b of the E.C.B rulebook I got my way. We were fielding.

Kev James looked splendid behind the stumps. The maestro quipped "I look like Alan Knott." Granny Knott more like. Lenny Duell and Alex Nicholas bowled well in tandem and had a combined age still younger than the skipper. Both unlucky with loads of play and [?]. Yet again it was super Kev, fresh from his 5-2 for the 3's, striking twice and showing his worth. Incidentally, super Kevs age is the same as Guru and Kev combined at 127. With Kev James directing the fielders with moves of six inches to the right, three inches to the left, he loved it and had a hand in three run outs. Coopervision 114 All out, below par I would say by 20 runs.

After my head started spinning with the sound of Urdu I opened up with the oldest swingers of Hythe, Kev James and the Guru. With the added pressure with a long tail that started at three to retire they were magnificent. Guru retired then after an instant four Saunders chopped on, Kev retired. The greatest collapse since the twin towers now started and yet again Asians were to blame, however these boys from the subcontinent knew the art of flight unlike the makeshift pilot of flight 175, Ashish turning it square to register figures of 4-29. With Duell & Nicholas adding three between them back came Guru. He looked untroubled till one of the biggest 'non catches' took place. Yes it was an edge, maybe a poor shot but my word what a shocking piece of gamesmanship.I was stood on the balcony, heard the ball hit the court, saw it hit the court. However the two fielders on the back wall and the bowler thought it was a clean catch and convinced the square leg umpire it was a catch.

Fair play to Guru for not losing it. Back came Kev and was bowled round his legs. Nine needed from super Kev. I was hopeful but in reality there is more chance of Saints staying up and it proved correct. Coopervision celebrated like it was Christmas, oh yeah I nearly forgot, celebrated like it was Ramadan. Man for man they were weaker than us but sometimes it happens, ham sandwiches all round to Coopervision.

Next game is 18th November and Zac will have completed his sex change and Archie released from borstal. It’s a simple equation, beat Southampton Warriors and we win the league.
