Hythe Start Season With New Website
From the 1st April we will be introducing a new website for the new season.
We will be moving the web address across so you should have no problems finding it.
I have to thank sportnetwork for all their help with this site - can't believe its 5 years
Anyone that remembers my first lot of pages - it was pretty ropey stuff.
For The New Site :
If anyone has any pictures or videos they have taken of the club in action - please send us a copy to put on the site.
I would like to be able to have a webmaster for each side to put on team news, reports and score cards. If anyone's interested please let me know
The new website has the facility for captains to sms their teams for availability, club shop and a facility to collect membership payments if we wanted too.

Romsey Indoor League Cup Draw
By the end of the evening Hythe 3's will know if they will play in the Quarter-Finals of the Trophmans Cup or the Quarter-Finals of the Plate.
Unless a shock is in store the latter is the most likely outcome with O.T's 10-0 this term
however I do like the make up our our team.

Easy Funraising Raises £36.95
Thanks to Angela Duell (Martin & Dan's Mum) and others who helped the club raise £36.95 through Eastfunding this quarter.
Doesn't sound a lot but it's 3 cricket balls we don't have to pay for.
Easyfundraising is a great way for members to raise money whilst shopping online.
All you have to do is register through the website and choose your cause for donations to be sent too.

Opening Home Fixtures Cancelled.
With the Football Club having only played one home game since mid December - the Wessex League have put back their final fixtures to Saturday 27th April.
Coxy still has some 20+ games to fit in at Hythe so we have had no alternative but to cancel our opening home friendlies on Saturday 27th & Sun 28th April.
There's no games planned at Hythe tomorrow - good job - they wouldn't have played the middle of the pitch is bog.
Strange when you think Pete cut the square this week.

Did You Know !!!
Don't want to sound negative but with more people seeming to want to play 2s than 1s - I asked the Hampshire League what would happen if our First XI finished in the relegation spots whilst our 2nd XI were still in the Division below ?
Answer - Both sides would be relegated regardless of where the 2nd XI finish in the league.

Clubhouse Broken Into Last Night
Robbie Parson was called this morning by police to say the clubhouse had been broken into.
A group of louts had smashed the side door leading to the changing rooms into pieces with the youth clubs bench.
Fortunately they couldn't get through to the bar and nothing appears to have been taken
We have a new door and the I will get some keys cut asap.

Mike Off To Walshy Territory
It was disappointing today to sign Mike Edwards player release form to play for Blackwood in the Gwent League.
Mike's decided to follow his late dads past and find his way to Blackwood where he wants to play his cricket next season.
Many of the old Hythe Sunday 2nd XI know the place well after touring there in the 90's.
To me though it's a big loss - Mike could have easily filled that bowling role the first team need this year - but we wish him well.
On his day there's no better economical bowler in the club.

Didn't Need To Fundraise In These Days
|
Take a look at the cars watching this game at Boltons Bench in 1961.
Would Ashurst love this now - they wouldn't need to take match fees.
I remember playing there in the 70's and they use to go round with a collection box.
I'll get one for Nick & Steve for this season

Dave & Janelle Expecting First Baby In July !!!
|
Great news from down under - Congratulations to Dave & Janelle Ryan who are expecting their first child in July.
Nice to see old diggers finally put down the green bowls and given his mrs a bit of attention.
Dave played for Hythe in 2001 after he & Janelle were backpacking for a year and turned up at Chilworth for a job.
First interview question on my list - 'Do you play cricket' (remember that one Mrs G').
The second part of his interview was at Noadswood School that evening in the nets.
Good job he did play cricket mind because he was a crap waiter. Mind you Janelle was a top bar person.

George Hoping To Join Hythe
Coopervision's George Sanderson is hoping to join Hythe for the new outdoor season.
George will attend nets in February after recently moving to the area.
His batting has taken him into the top 10 leading batsman in Division 2 of the indoor league with knocks of 30*, 27* & 26*.
He also top scored against Hythe 2's.

Whose Going To Be Travelling The Most This Season
Woodsy's been on the old multimap finding out how many miles each of our sides will travel this season for fixtures.
Dave Marshall at Sway had posted that their First XI will travel 473 miles to away games and back in 2013.
Our First XI who are in the same league - don't have it so bad. They will travel a total of 376 miles which includes a 75 mile round trip to Hambledon.
The Second XI will travel a total of 377 miles - the worst being a 90 mile round trip to the Sussex border to face Compton.
The Third & Fourth XI travel West for their fixtures. Miles may not be as important as traffic hold ups. The Thirds will travel a total of 371 miles with the furthest being Kings Park, Boscombe 60 mile round trip. The Fourths travel the least but have a game less. Their total is 315 miles incuding a 63 miles round trip to Meryck Park.
Could be worse I guess - Compton (West Sussex) to CBBEA (Bournemouth) 124 mile round trip.

Froggett & Bowman Added to Hall of Legends Page
With it being the end of the year it was time to add two more names to the Hythe & Dibden Hall of Legends page.
Ten seasons as Captain of the 2nd XI and for all his off field work - Mike Bowman deserved to have his name put alongside the rest of Hythe's best.
Six years running the Colts Section as Head Coach and for being one of Hythe's most consistent players over the past 20 years Richie Froggett also deserves to be added.
With 20 names now on the page - what a team you could form out of that squad.
One missing from the list - who posted a message on the messageboard today is Mel Hussain brother of Nasser.
He played for the club for two seasons whilst playing for Hampshire 2nd XI and was a huge part in Hythe finishing 2nd in the Southern League. Mel hit 160 vs Alton in 1983 followed by 204* vs Southampton University in 1984
Pleased to see past members get on the website - makes it worth while.

League Fixture Dates In Our Favour
The Hampshire League Fixtures aern't quite ready for 2013 but we've been informed that the League has helped us with our two requests for 2013.
June 1st when we lose several players to Mike's sisters wedding - the league has given our 3rd XI a free date. This means we will only have to get 3 sides out that Saturday.
The other date is the June 29th when the 3rd or 4th XI cannot play at home because of a football tournament the 4th XI have a free date.
In the past we have had to find somewhere to play a home game on that date.
