| Hythe 2's vs Colden Common |
| McCarthy Block's Common's Fighback |
Hythe 2's made it 3 wins in 3 with a 40 run win over previously unbeaten Colden Common.
Another Sunday, another fixture for the all conquering warriors. Hythe B were first up on Court B. After loosing the toss and being put in by the Colden Common captain who had been warming up with his men for twenty minutes and looked a slick unit.
With the absence of Kev James the openers consisted of the Guru and big Arch. With the Guru being beat by pace in the first over for a blob it didn't look good. In came Millar and in partnership with big Arch dotted the ball around for a succession of threes. After getting too comfortable Zac ran out Hythe's premier batsman. After a string of expletives and death threats to Zac, Archie had to be dragged off court by four men.
In came the Captain (with a haircut that Howard Jones would be proud of, Chiv asked if I had highlights put in, come on Chiv, do I sound like a man that would dye his hair?!) and instantly found the back wall. Millar retired and in came Hythe's mastermind champion Martin 'Lenny' Duell. As this was going on another battle was ensuing nearby with the Guru going the full twelve rounds with the gym door. "How hard is it, all you have to do is push the hinges!" Rumour has it that the door won on points.
Martin struck a nice couple of threes before running himself out, Kev Mac followed for a diamond. Back came Millar to great fanfare, and in tandem with the Skipper peppered the back wall with a series of straight shots that the Washington sniper would be proud of.
Final score 134-4 with Millar 45*, Saunders 36*. Could the batting award be going to the man from Wearside ? It's fair to say that Southampton have more chance of avoiding relegation. I just don't know what Guru's problem is to get runs? No doubt he will a comeback next week to rival Elvis' in Vegas '68.
With Archie foaming at the mouth for blood it was wise to stick the gloves and Hannibal Lecter mask on him. Martin bowled the first over and pitched the first two balls six inches in front of his feet the skipper thought "Oh Duck!" or something along those lines. After the introduction of running water via headphones he calmed down and bowled three tidy overs. At 55 for 2 and cruising on came Hythe's answer to Harold Larwood, yes folks the strapping six foot four frame of Kev Mac wound up off 3 paces and took 3 wickets in an over - The third finding the fine edge which the umpire didn't hear but with a blade in his back from Archie the batsman quickly walked.
After that Zac completed the formalities. Three out of three for the warriors. Who are the first team I hear you ask? Well they won but only via Guymer's shovel. With two victories we have some good players for a border league team in the summer (that's a hint to the club chairman Napoleon, err, I mean Froggy).
Questions to be answered, will Guru beat the door, will the first team get a team out next week, will Archie get that ASBO, is Jimmy Savile innocent and Is Jonjo Stovell a practising homosexual? Tune in for next weeks report. A big thank you to Chiv for scoring and all those that drove but the biggest thank you goes to that umpire that looks like McKenzie Crook on smack. The first teamers know who I'm talking about as he gave your boys some interesting run out decisions. That's me for the daily bull and off to bed, I've got another half day tomorrow.
