Hythe 3's lost their opening Indoor fixture at the hands of a disciplined Wellow & Plaitford side.

It was Hythe's first venture into the Romsey League and for four of the Hythe side their first ever indoor game. With the playing area the same size as Priestlands but slightly wider everyone arrived early to understand the rules.

Jack KO lost the toss and to everyone's surprise Wellow asked Hythe to bat. With the glassed gallery above the arena the batsman were on their own and Gareth and Jason were asked to be cautious for the first six overs. The one main difference from Priestlands was the match ball which appeared smaller and very much lighter than normal. The boys started well and it was Mead who hit the first boundary in the second over. Hythe 11-0 off 2. That brought Hampshire's Charlie Field into the attack to which Hythe scored 3 wall singles and a leg bye. In the 4th Hythe opened up Shorto hitting a no ball 6 and Mead a no ball 4 - 23 coming off Lerway's over though he did manage to take the first wicket to fall - Shorto caught for 13. Only 2 came off Field's next over and in the 5th Orr bowled Tom Nicholas for 1 - Hythe 46 for 2.

That brought in the skipper JKO & Mead to 72 in the 10th over before JKO was bowled for 8. Shortly after Mead was caught off Orr for 13 and Hythe were in trouble at 72 for 4 off 10.1 overs. First ball of the final over Alex Nicholas was very well caught off Higgins for 0. Chiverton managed to get hold of two 6's to take the score to 90 for 5 at the close - clearly not enough but not a bad attempt at their first knock.

Quick change over and Hythe were in the field - they got off to a perfect start when Chiverton & Mead combined to run out Higgins for 0. 7 came off the first over then Alex Nicholas bowled a great second over going for just 3. Unfortunately Chiv spoilt that with a mare of a thrid over which went for 26. Alex next over saw him bowl Sampson for 13. W&P 44-2

Next over Field then hit Tom Nicholas for a 6 and was retiring 28* in just the 5th over. JKO brought himself on to bowl a 7 run 6th over - W&P 63 for 2. Tom Nicholas bowled out with a 7 run 7th over before JKO bowled Hancock for 4. Sadly though 10 off Chiverton's 9th over and Wellow had got home wth 18 balls to spare.

Wellow deserved winners by 3 wkts but the green caps will get better. Hythe's next game two weeks time against Michelmersh

Thanks to Woodsy for scoring
