Division 3

Sunday October 7th 2012

Archie Gilbert who couldn't buy a run all September smashed 43 to lead Hythe 2's to a 2 wicket win over previously unbeaten Friends.

Rob Saunders won the toss and asked Friends to bat first. The Colonal's side included 3 wicket keepers so it was interesting to see how Hythe would fare with the ball. Zac Millar opened the bowling but found his first over going for 20. Next over Kev James bowled tidy - just 6 from two wides coming off. Kev McCarthy was next and to everyone's surprise was surprised Kev's 4th ball was a no ball beamer ( caused probably becuase it was 10.30 and he's normally be drinking his horlicks by now) - 11 of the thrid over - Friends starting well 37 for 0 off 3. Saunders pegged that back in the 4th with just 4 runs coming from.

Hythe finally got their first wicket in the 5th over when Tabbish was run out by Millar for 21. That brought the experience of Ram Kholi to the crease. He and Deb added 31 in 3 overs before Deb was caught & bowled by Saunders for 11. Friends 83 for 2 off 8. Millars final over went for 9 which was followed by 10 off the tiring Kev James (probaly too many roasties at lunch time) but James did get the second breakthrough with his final ball - Saunders catching Thomas for 4. Kolhi retired with the score on 115 but 3 balls later returned after Tongs briiliantly run out skipper Spencer for 2. Friends finishing on 122 for 4 Kohli 28 *. For Hythe Saunders bowled very well - his 3 overs going for just 14 runs.

The old veterans of James & Tongs opened up for Hythe but two balls in James was out - bowled by Deb for 0. Gilberts 3 was followed by a Guru classic stroke for 4 - Ten came off the first over and by the end of the 4th Hythe were on target at 42 for 1 - Gilbert finding a four and a six before retiring with the score on 54. Shortly after Millar's stay was brief as he was well caught for 1. - Hythe 58 for 2 off 5.

19 came off the 6th over only downside for Hythe - Tongs having to retire. Saunders was now joined at the crease by McCarthy b ut not for long as Kev was caught by Tabbish off Spencer - Hythe 77 for 3. Gilbert returned and he and his skipper added 42 valuable runs - two boundaries for Saunders and a four and a six more for Gilbert taking him to 43. Sadly though as he closed in on a indoor fifty his skipper went for a suicidle run. As the skipper looked back to see Archie run out he cried ' don't worry Arch we have two wickets left' - 'sorry Arch'.

At the end of the 11th the score were all level and with 3 balls left a bye sealed the Hythe win - Saunders finishing 13*, Tongs 28*. Good win and 22 points.
