| Kev McCARTHY 5-34 |
Hythe beat Bramshaw by 6 wickets yesterday to win their Sept mini-series with Bramshaw 2-1.
For the third time in September Hythe traveled to Bramshaw for a 40 over friendly. On a pleasant day Hythe took to the field hoping they weren't going to have to chase 280 again. Using the Hampshire orange trial ball Rob Saunders got plenty of early swing - but it was Martin Duell who claimed the early wicket when he had Prentice caught behind by Zac Millar for 4.
Then we had a 5 minute delay in play which would have won 'you've been framed' - D'Monte smashed a ball for four. As the Colonal went to collect in the middle of a herd of horses - the horses set off with the Colonal shouting ' theyve got our ball' . One of the herd picked the ball up and the herd set too with the colonal taking chase. 50 metres later after jumping a ditch (and Saunders) the horse dropped the ball play was able to resume. Even the Bramshaw lads said theyd never seen anything like it before.
D'Monte looked in mencing form and with Coombes at the other end the fifty partnership came up. But with the score on 77 for 1 after 15 the game turned. McCarthy bowled Coomes for 28 and followed that up by bowling D'Monte for 43 (inc 8x4's) Terris a ton maker last time out was then caught by Chiverton off McCarthy in the slips for 13. Super Kev then got two wickets in two balls having Boyd stumped by Millar for 3 and bowling Vane for 0.
Tom Arnold was running out of partners and after htiing two sixes was bowled by Chiverton for 15. Chiverton then had Plumbley caught & bowled for 0. Tom Knight-Owen finished off the innings - bowling Clasby for 9. Bramshaw had gone from 77-1 to 132 all out. McCarthy 8 overs 5-34 surprisingly his first 5 wkts for the club. Saunders 0-16 off 6 gave Hythe the perfect start.
After Harry had polished off the clubs tea - Jack Knight-Owen and Archie Gilbert took to the middle. Gilbert got off to a good start with a nice shot but was then bowled by Vane for 2. Gareth Mead fancied the short boundaries - so did JKO as he smashed the innings first six. Hythe moved onto 42 for 1 after 10 thanks to 5x4's from Mead. But with the score on 43 Mead was bowled by Arnold for 24. Arnold claimed a second wicket when he had JKO caught & bowled for 21.
Tongs & Harry Smith took the score to 87 before Smith was caught behind for 17. The ever reliable Tongs and Zac Millar though put on an unbeaten 47 partnership to win the game in the 30th over. Millar finishing it with a six to take him top of the six hit league above Patsey. Tongs finished 31*. Hythe win the September series 2-1.
Thanks to Bramshaw for putting on the three games for us - always a pleasure to play the friendly forest side.
