Taylor Stars For Young Under 13 Side

With over 30 names contacted for the final under 13s league game of the season, the 10 man side went to Bashley for the second time in a month.

Stand in skipper Swainston won the toss and chose to bowl on what was a warm summers evening. Playing on Bashley’s main pitch, which had dried out well in the past week Carley went about his first 2 overs with 2 maidens before bowling just a wide off his third. At the other end Knight-Owen, who was fresh from his football match with his staircase, came on to bowl and 3 full tosses were dispatched to the boundary before he got his first wicket of Gaunt LBW from a very mute appeal. Knight-Owen picked up a second wicket in his 3rd over, cleaning up opener Driscoll for a duck.

Swainston brought himself on for Carley and after a couple of no balls he picked up the wicket of Nowicki for 11 caught by Knight-Owen. His second over picked up the wicket of Blay, again caught by magnet hands Knight-Owen. The other end saw the oldest of the 3 Jones on display and whilst Tom was unfortunate not to get any wickets he bowled 4 overs for 12 runs in what was a very probing spell out side off stump. Taylor had one over and picked up the wicket of Wolfrey, clean bowled. Harrison Fay bowled 2 overs, the first of which was a maiden, this kept young Dan Jones at deep backward point busy with some risky shots with Harrison nipping the ball back in.

Carley and Knight-Owen came back on to bowl the last 2 overs. Again Carley unlucky not to get a wicket, 4-2-3-0 in what has been a very controlled season for him – Runs per over rate for the season of just 3.36. Knight-Owen picked up his 3rd wicket, clean bowled in what was an impressive performance in the field. Ben and Dan Jones deserve a special mention with both saving runs and keeping the pressure on – remembering that Dan is only 7 - an excellent effort from the 2 under 9s. Fay was the stand in keeper and with only 2 byes showed a solid display. Bashley – 65-6 (18 overs)

Hythe opened the batting with Jessney and Taylor. The pair went about a steady start ensuring that they got themselves in and that the batting order was protected. Jesney got the first for with a shot his dad described out of the middle of the bat down to third man. Taylor hit his first 4 in the next over and the opening pair were 28 without loss after 9 overs.

Jessney was eventually bowled out for 5 in what was a watchful innings which brought Lewie Fay to the crease. Lewie hit 1 four before being bowled to a ball that appeared to keep low. Harrison Fay was in at number 4 and immediately was swinging to get Hythe Home. At the other end Taylor was holding the innings together and hitting the bad balls. Taylor eventually retired on 30 not out in what was an innings that proves his quality as a batsman, particularly down the ground.

Harrison and new batsman Carley were there to see Hythe over the line, well almost, with Harrison bowled off the second to last ball of the game for 8 that included 1 four. Skipper Swainston Joined Carley at the crease and only had to watch a no ball that sealed a Hythe win.
