HAMPSHIRE LEAGUE SOUTH WEST DIV 3

Saturday 4th July 2012

Mike EDWARDS 81

You never know what your going to get with Huxter's lads. They lose to relegation threatened sides, cave from winning positions - more often than not - and then beat Chamiopnship hopefuls Calmore III's

Calmore won the toss and asked Hythe to bat first. Hythe opened with Nick Shrive & Mike Edwards. After a slow start 11 off 6 Shrive was bowled by Patterson for 3. Edwards and Pates then added a partnership of 81 in 17 overs for the second wicket before Pates was bowled by Hill for 34. - Hythe 92 for 2 off 24 overs. But then in typical 3rd team spirit the wickets began to fall at a rapid rate. Huxley was caught off Donovan for 1 and then Stovell threw away his wicket for 0. Next over Gilbert was caught & bowled - Hythe 103 for 5.

Edwards was still there though and he and Ollie Pike 10* added 32 important runs before Edwards was finally out stumped off Taylor for 81. Two overs remaining Ian Prentice was sent in up the order with great effect. He smashed Provins for 3x4's off the final three balls of the 41st over and then 2x6's, 1x4 and a single off the final over bowled by Mark Taylor. Prentice finishing 31 not out off 11 balls. - Hythe 168 for 6. For Calmore M.Donovan took 3-27.

Calmore's reply started in similar style to Hythe - 23 coming off the first 10 overs bowled by J.Stovell & Ali Bryers. Then in the 11th over Lavelle was well caught by Kev McCarthy off Stovell for 13. Ian Prentice then had Nicholson caught by Pates for 7 and two runs later Calmore were 25 for 3 Kinchington soon followed caught behind off Stovell by Gilbert for 0.

Dave Rose who scored a ton against the Green Caps last season looked menacing. Stovell was replaced by Mike Edwards and in his second over he had Matt Taylor bowled for 3. - Calmore 38 for 4 off 18 overs. Both Rose and skipper Galbraith hit sixes as they looked to get Calmore back into the game. The pair added 48 in 11 overs before Rose was well caught by Stovell off McCarthy for 26. D.Hill made 10 before being bowled by Edwards and when Prentice well caught Donovan off McCarthy for 0 - Calmore were 105 for 7. off 34.

Mark Taylor 17 and Galbraith added 27 for the 8th wicket before Galbraith was bowled by Page for 54. Taylor added 17 Provins finished 14* but Hythe got home by 12 runs - Calmore ending 156 for 9. Good game played in a very good spirit. Hythe sharp in the field today
