CRICKET IS BACK
After two weeks of washouts - cricket finally came back to Jones Lane with a Hythe XI hosting tourists Blue Bell Hill from Kent. Hythe were asked to bat on a damp pitch and were shot out for 90 (Richie Froggett making 34) The tourists lost just 3 wickets in reply and then won the 10-10 afterwards. But nice to have some cricket.

HYTHE XI vs BLUE BELL HILL (Kent)

Finally Cricket Is Back - But It Ends In Defeat

A fortnight of washouts but after Mondays rain surprisingly Jones Lane was fit enough to host Kent tourists Blue Bell Hill.

Sadly though Hythe failed to put a decent target on the board and the tourists run out easy winners.

Zac Millar captained the Hythe side in the absence of the Colonal. To everyone's amazement the Blue Bell skipper elected to field first rather than have their first bat of the tour. Mind you in normal circumstances you would field first.

Carley and Stevens opened for Hythe but sadly after getting the game on - Pete only lasted three balls after getting one that moved a mile. Carley & skipper Millar soon followed and Hythe were in all sorts of trouble at 2-3. Jimmy Wilden hit 13 off 5 balls and the other 19 balls he hit with his pad. 23-4.

A mini recovery came through the patient Archie Gilbert (7 off 39 balls) and Richie Froggett as they added 30 for the 5th wicket. Froggett made 34 which would have been 70 had the grass been cut. Ohter than Jonjo Stovell 10 the rest of the batting folded and Hythe were all out for 90.

Chiverton & McCarthy opened the Hythe bowling looking for an early wicket. They had to wait for the 7th over when Chiverton bowled Smith off his pads for 2. At 10 overs Hythe could have been pleased with their containment (21-1) but they needed wickets. The second wicket didn't come til the 18th over when Stevens bowled Brivio for 39. Jack Knight-Owen then had Attridge stumped by Carley for 12 - 67 for 3 off 19 overs.

Millar shuffled the bowlers but I. Hayward 19* & L.Short 15* saw Blue Bell home with 13 overs in hand.

The game was followed by a Ten10 match but again the tourists finished as winners despite two wickets in two balls by Harry Smith & Steve Chiverton and two cracking catches in two balls by Archie Gilbert in the deep.

Richie Froggett made 33* as Hythe finished 69 for 5 chasing 87.

A good day though against a very friendly bunch of guys - thanks to Pete for getting the game on, Steve Millar for doing the bar and Jackie for the excellent teas.
