Marshall Resistance Earns Sway a Draw

Zac MILLAR 64

For the second time in a week - Hythe were left feeling disappointed as the Sway 10th wicket pair held out for a draw. Hythe batted first scoring 177 all out with Zac Millar scoring 64. An excellent spell of bowling from Sam Long 3-16 off 8 wasn't enough as Sway hung on.

Hythe won the toss and Woodsy elected to bat first. It appeared a very good idea as Zac Millar and Sam Mead put on 76 for the first wicket before Straw bowled Mead for 23. JP Fenton looked good before Straw had him caught for 10. Hythe 94 for 2. Three wickets then fell for 22 runs as Sway got themselves back in the game. Millar making a fine 64 for Hythe but will be disappointed not to go on.

The middle order of Gary Howe (124), Jack Knight-Owen (10) and Josh Mead (14) added important runs but Hythe were all out in the 38th over for 177. Sway deserve credit for coming back into the game from 100-2 to 177 all out. Two wickets a piece for Straw, Nailor and Lewis.

After an excellent Mead / Millar tea Hythe took to the field looking for 10 wickets in an hour and 20 overs. Hythe got off to a perfect start when Ben Fenton bowled J.Marshall for 0 and then had Symons caught behind by Gary Howe for 3. Sway 9 for 2 in no time. Drayton & Nailor added 26 before R.Drayton was run for 8. Lewis was then caught off JP Fenton for 1 - 47 for 4 at drinks.

Woodsy rightly kept mixing the bowling up - the game sprung to life with the score on 70 as 3 wickets fell in quick succession. Sam Long bowled S.Nailor for a very good 32 then N.Brien for 0. Josh Mead then took the wicket of C.Hammond thanks to an excellent catch from Gareth Mead. Sway 70-7 and Hythe well in control. Long claimed his third wicket - bowling Straw for 3 and then S.Drayton was LBW to a Sam Mead full toss.

5 overs to go but Hythe couldn't budge Dave Marshall 22* who relished the challenge. He was well supported by L.Marden 1* who looked comfortable.

Game drawn - Hythe pick up 8 bonus points Sway 6 points.
