HAMPSHIRE LEAGUE SOUTH WEST DIV 3

Saturday 30th June 2012

Tom HUXLEY 30*

Back to back victories for Hythe 3's was sealed with a determined 30* from skipper Tom Huxley as the Green Caps chased down 114 to win. Hythe lost 7 wickets in the process but 32 from Dan Pates set Hyth up for the win. Earlier Ali Byers 3-20 & Steve Chiverton 3-23 set up the win.

Threats of having to cancel the game due to overnight vandelism was squashed when eveyone got to gether eraly to clear up the mess. The artificial wicket at Thornberry certainly won't be used again. Tom Huxley won the toss and asked Saw (who were desperate to play) to bat first.

The Thornberry gale blew across the ground making it difficult for both sets of bowlers (thats my excuse). FJ Charlton & R.How started well for Sway against some tight Prentcie / Bryers bowling. 9 overs and 24 runs before Hythe eventually got the breakthrough when Bryers had Charlton caught by debutant Martin Duell for 9. Prentice then had How LBW for 10. - 33-2.

Chiverton replaced Bryers and after two bad overs bowled Drayton for 4. In his next over he had Thisleton excellently caught one handed by Kev McCarthy for 5. Prentice finished an excellent spell of 10 overs 1-16. McCarthy then bowled C.Smith for 5 before Chiverton had Scwagger caught by Alex Nicholas for 2. Sway 50 for 6 off 22.

As expected Sway recovered through a 42 partnership between veterans Pete Hammett and Dave Hurrell before Hurrell was caught by Shrive off Alex Nicholas for 12. Hammett finally went for a determined 21 bowled by the returning Bryers. McCarthy bowled Harvey and in the last over Hythe earned all bonus points when Bryers bowled David for 5. Sway 113 all out.

Hythe put 20 on the board before Nick Shrive was bowled by Smith for 1. Gilbert joined Pates and the pair added 30 before Pates was bowled by Scwagger for 32. Gilbert was then bowled by Scwagger for 7 and Hythe were 52 for 3.

55 for 3 at drinks but then Martin Duell was the bowled for 1- 66-4. Bryers made 12 and Nicholas 7 as Hythe scrambled towards their target. Tom Huxley held the innings together 30* inc 1x6 & 2x4's and Hythe reched their target in the 37th over.

Good game played in a good spirit the surprise on Sways part - Drayton only bowling 3 overs
