HAMPSHIRE LEAGUE SOUTH WEST DIV 3

Saturday 23rd June 2012

Hythe 3's recorded their first home win of the season with a 26 run win over Hyde II's @ Thornberry Avenue. Once again Hythe started well but failed to bat out their overs - 144 a/o. At 81-2 Hyde were well in the game until Ian Prentice 4-31 got his swing going.

On another underprepared wicket - Hythe lost the toss and were asked to bat. Nick Shrive & Dan Pates got the Green Caps off to a good start with 40 coming off the first 12 overs. Pates then ran himself out for 24. Stovell made 12 before playing a shocker of a shot then Gareth Meads eyes lit up as he was caught in the deep for 15. Nick Shrive - still not liking these slow damp wickets stuck around for 20 and Tom Huxley made double figures for the first time this year - out for 10. Hythe 104-5 off 28 overs. Archie Gilbert played to early and was caught & bowled for a duck b ut a useful 29 partnership between the two warhorses Prentice & Stevens took the to 134 before Prentice was bowled for 11.

Page hit a cracking boundary but missed the next - out for 4. Walshy copied the Stovell class of shockers to be bowled for 1. Stevens last man out for 18 - Hythe 144 all out. For Hyde the leg spin of young Jack Renshaw 4-47.

Huxley opened with Page and Walsh - 3rd over McCarthy clinging on to a good catch off Walsh to dismiss Hayward for 6. Next over Page bowled Loader for 6 - Hyde 10-2. M.Savage & S.Turner then took the game to Hythe. Page was smashed out of the attack 1-34 off 5. Walsh misely at the other end just 9 coming off his first 5 overs. The fifty come up in 11th over. Prentcie came on to replace Page but had to wait for his 4th over to dismiss Savage for 19 - Hyde 81 for 3 off 18.

Match winning turn around - McCarthy clung onto a belter from Turner off Prentice - out for 42. Tow more wickets for Stovell and Prentcie, one for McCarthy plau a Stovell run out and Hythe won in the 35th over - Hyde all out for 118.

A better performance will be needed next week to beat Sway but just one more win shopuld see Hythe safe from the drop.
