Under 9's Raise Their Game For Famous Win

Alfie PATES
1st U9's SIX

Raise your glasses to Zac's Under 9's as they achieved something of a club first - a Hythe Colts side beating a Lymington 'A side by 2 runs on Friday evening at Lymington. A fine all round team performance was lead by Alfie Pates who took 3 wickets & hit the first ever Hythe Under 9 six in a score of 8.

Lymington batted first and made a solid start through J.Roynan (+6) & C.Williams (+5). The Second pairing of T.Robinson (+3) & C.Pritchett (+1) added another 22 without loss taking the score to 241 for 0 at the half way stage.

Hythe battled back in the third pairing as T.Larkin (+4) & D.Scott (-5) lost two wickets to finish on (0) 241 for 2. Alfie Pate s bowling both batsman in the same over. C.Hawkins (+2) & L.Colmer (+1) were the last Lymington pairing. Hawkins hit consecuitve fours as they tried to up the pace however he was out twice - Once caught by Cooper off D.Jones and also bowled by Pates. Lymington finishing on 254 for 4.

255 to win - Big ask you'd have thought but Hayden Cooper (+1) & Andrew Besley (+3) got them off to a good start - 214-0 off 4. Alfie Pates (+8) & Noel Vaughan (+2) continued the impressive start taking the score to 230-0 at the half way stage though 15 runs behind Lymington at the same stage. Pates making a name for himself with the first under six off the bowling of Robertson.

Third pairing of Caitlin Smith (+1) & Ben Jones (+7) added another 13 to the score. Jones hitting a fine boundary in his score of 7. So the 4th pairing of Monty Gilbert (0) & Dan Jones (-3) required 12 to win providng they didn't lose a wicket.

A wide off the 13th over meant 10 to win off 3 and when 2 wides and a bye off the 14th Hythe were requiring 5 off two overs. The 11th over saw Hythe lose their first wicket of the innings when Jones was run out but 3 wides and 3 no balls in the same over put Hythe on level score with Lymington 254. Final over and 1 run needed but more importantly keep your wicket in tact. 3 dot balls then Jones hit a single followed by a runed by meant Monty just need to block out the final ball. Hythe recording a famous win by 2 runs in a cracking game.
