New Forest Under 9 League

Friday 8th June

Hythe Under 9's were beaten heavily by a much bigger Langley Manor side in chilli conditions at Jones Lane. Langley Manor made 275 for 4 off their 16 overs. In reply Hythe made 223 for 6.

Langley Manor's openers of Renders & Pewders started confidently - taking the score to 223-0 after 4overs. Hythe didn't help themselves with wides in the next partnership but they did claim two late wickets thanks to the bowling of Dan Jones and a catch from Lex Vaughan. Langley Manor 229 for 2 after 8.

Third pair Ponting & Griffin took the score to 253 after 12 though Hythe did claim a third wicket when Gilbert bowled Ponting. Langley's 4th pairing towered over the Hythe lads as they came out to bat - M.Kimberley certainly bult like a 12 year old to 9's as he hit 3x4's in an innings of 12. Would have been more but the Hythe fielders kept alert and ran him out. Langley Manor finishing on 275 for 4. Dan Jones 3-9 off 3 Hythe's best bowler on the day.

Big task ahead 276 to win- Opening pair of Joe Mould (-4) & Lex Vaughan (-10) found the going tough and were (-7) 193-3 after 4 overs. Mould out twice and Vaughan once. Second pairing of Noahl Vaughan (+1) & Alfie Pates (+4) clawed runs back as they finished unbeaten - Hythe 211 for 3.

Two early wickets in the third pairing Saw Caitlin Smith (-4) & Ben Jones (-4) both bowled once. They did recover to add 3 more runs but it meant the final pairing of Monty Gilbert & Dan Jones needing 62 off 4 overs. The first over they added 3 followed by 2 without loss. 6 then came off the tird over but the final over saw Jones bowled and Hythe had lost by 52 runs. The last Hythe pair adding 9 runs.
