NEW FOREST UNDER 15 LEAGUE (SOUTH)
| HYTHE U15's vs WELLOW & PLAITFORD |
Sunday 10th June
| Blandford Blitz Not Enough |
A hard hitting 27* from Jordan Blandford was not enough to stop the Under 15's from going down by 33 runs to a strong Wellow & Plaitford side. Hythe set 129 to win were always behind the run rate but carried them selves well in a 95 for 6 reply.
Visitors Wellow batted first when the weather surprisingly held off to let the game go ahead. Hythe got off to a good start when Alex Nicholas bowled Lambert for 0 in the first over. By the 6th over Wellow had recovered to 54 for 1 with the Hythe bowling all over the place - Nicholas going at 10 an over. Hythe had to wait to the 9th over for their second wicket when Hancock was caught by Nicholas off Kelly for 25. Oliver retired 43* and at 10 over W&P were 82 for 2.
Hythe then pulled themselves back as three wickets fell quickly - Field was bowled by Sam Kelly, Amjad run out by Pike for 4 and then Nicholas run out Garnett for 0 - W&P 95 for 5 in the 14th. A late ralley by Lerway took Wellow to 128 for 7 at the close. Carley and Pike taking the other two wickets. Carley 1-14 off 4 Hythe's best bowler but you could question why Sam Carley or Tom Knight-Owen weren't given an over with the bowling expensive.
With 7 an over required it was always an uphill struggle. Archie Gilbert & Elliott Carley got Hythe off to a solid start (37-0 off 8) but by this time they were already 29 behind W&P at the same stage. Both players fell in the space of two runs Carley stumped for 22 and Gilbert stumped for 16. Harrison Smith didn't last long - stumped for 1. and at 13 overs Hythe were 52 for 3.
Jordan Blandford upped the pace for the final overs slamming 3x4's and a six in a run a ball 27* - Sam Kelly made 9 before being caught but Hythe closed at 95 for 6 and a 33 run defeat.
