Mike Bowman will return next week injured or not to try and get his side back on track after slipping into the drop zone with a 59 run defeat at Wickham. No wins in 4 the 2s are looking a far cry from last years Championship winning side.
Wickham batted first and Hythe got off to a good start with Josh Mead & Jonjo Stovell each taking a wicket. Mead's first 5 overs went for just 10 runs. - 19-2 . But a 169 run 2nd wicket partnership between R.Hayward 89 & N.Stothert 99 in 23 overs set the home side up for a big total.
Hythe dropped chances galore and experienced bowlers such as White and Froggett had an off day. Skipper James Page gambled with Jack Knight-Owen but the youngster's two overs went for 29. Wayne Effeny however took 3-34 and Alex Nicholas 3-20 late on as Wickham finished on 240 for 8.
Rain delay meant Hythe now needed 218 from 38 overs. 5.7 runs an over needed but obviously it wasn't relayed to the Hythe openers as only 17 came off the first 8 overs. Tom Porter was run out for 18 with the score on 23 and by drinks Hythe had picked up the run rate to 67 for 1 off 21. Three overs late Wayne Effeny fell for 29 and by 30 overs Hythe had moved onto 101 for 3 still needing 118 from 12. overs.
James Page 30 and Richie Froggett tried to up the pace but Barrett picked up 5-44 and Hythe were 159 for 7 at the close.
