New Forest Under 9 League

Friday 18th May

On a cold damp evening at Jones Lane Hythe & Bashley Under 9's braved the weather and slippery conditions just to get a game in. For Hythe though it was a hard task and they were well beaten by a much better side who deserve credit for taking a gamble on the weather and coming across the forest.

Bashley batted first and made a good start through first pairing Mills & Blay (+16). Second pair Milcombe & Spencer Thomas added another (+18) as Hythe showed their weakness which is bowling straight Edwards & Mewerey continued the fine batting and at 12 overs Bashley were 253-0. Harris & Presland continued the fine work and at the close Bashley were 281-0.

282 to win - Hythe needed to bat sensibly but found the Bash bowling just as effective as their batting. Opening pair Joe Mould (0) & Andrew Besley (-5) took Hythe to a decent start 212 after 4. Brynn Miles (-5) & Cameron Ovendon (-5) too found it difficult to get runs and at the half way stage Hythe had dropped to 206-2.

Monty Gilbert (-3) & Dan Jones (+1) brought the score back upto 215-4 and the last Hythe pair of Ben Jones (8) inc 2x 4's & Hayden Cooper (0) doubled the score to 230-4 at the close. Bashley win by 51 runs.
