HYTHE UNDER 13's vs FAWLEY

24th May @ Fernhills

Under 13's Secure First Victory.

Hythe under 13s beat Fawley last night to secure their first victory for the 2012 season, Molyneux with 22 and Fay with 21 not out.

On what was a very warm and humid evening skipper Ladbury won the toss and elected to field first. Hythe opened the bowling with Ladbury and Carley who bolwed well with Carley bowling a maiden with his second over resulting in Fawley being 6-0 after 4 overs. Spinner Swainston then took over from the football stand end and imediatly was causing problems for the batsman, his second of the 3 overs he bowled was a maiden. Fay at the pavilion end was finding edges as the Fawley batsman looked to try and get runs on the board. Fay and Swainston were unlucky not to pick up any wickets.

Fawley were 20-0 after 9 when Lever came onto bowl and found success in his first over with Coxal caught by Mould for 10. Jessney bowled his only over down the hill and whilst 3 wides were bowled the ball was turning for him and the chance of a wicket was almost there when the batsman tried to cut one off his stumps. Mould came on to bowl with the incentive of 4 slips and a gully and was immediately finding the outside edge with one dropped in the slip cordon. Knight-Owen bowled one that consisted of 1 no ball and the final over was left to Taylor who picked up the wicket of Forster for 14 clean bowled.

Fawley finished with 65-3 in what was a solid performance by the Hythe bowlers. Good retrieving in the field meant that Fawley only picked up 2 boundaries in their 18 overs.

66 needed to Win.

The green caps opened the batting with Mould and Fay. Mould was the first to go on 6 caught off the bowling of Forster. This brought Molyneux to the crease and between him and Fay they added 36 runs to the score, Molyneux was next to go on 22 in an innings that included 2 fours bowled by Coxall.

Taylor came in at number 4 in what was his Hythe home debut. Him and Fay continued to push Hythe towards the winning line before Taylor was caught for 4 off the bowling of Ballard. In at number 5 was club debutant Cooper who had to negotiate the last five runs with the ever present Fay. The pair managed it in the 15th over and whilst Cooper didn’t get any runs he can take credit for the shots he did play. Fay deserves the most credit though for carrying his bat through the innings and scoring 21 not out, with 1 four, in what was a well timed and match winning innings.
