New Forest Under 17 League

17th May @ Jones Lane

Well done to Sue for the Match Report :

Cracking game at Jones Lane on Thursday evening as Hythe Under 17's pulled the game back from the brink of defeat to grab a tied game against Sway. The 17's without several key players fielded a very young side who fielded and bowled superbly in the gloom. Josh Mead taking 4-12 and Elliott Carley 3-17

The first match of the season for the Under 17’s proved to be a real nail-biter as the green caps took on Sway at Home.  Hythe batted first, losing 2 quick wickets to a clean bowled from Steadman and an unlucky run out going for 2.  Then Sam Long and Zac Millar respectively - with excellent back up from Archie Gilbert, combined to add 80 to the score including a 6 for Long before he was clean bowled for 35.  Gilbert finishing on 22 not out and Millar not out for 23.  Innings total 93 for 3.

The Hythe bowling attack was exceptional as always with Steadman being taken cheaply in the first over – caught Gilbert (Wicket keeper) bowled Nicholas for 2.  Bryers took out Batsman number 3 with a clean bowled.  The steady scoring of Straw kept Sway in the game until Carley was brought into the attack in the 14^th over and he was also gone clean bowled for 41.  The last over started with Sway needing 3 runs to win and 3 wickets left to fall – Mead stepped up and took two wickets clean bowled for Batsman 9 and 10, with Mead on for a hat trick Sway spoiled the moment, running two on the next ball – scores tied on 93.  The cold spectators waited with bated breath -  4^th ball of the over was a dot – 2 balls to go – one run needed for the win.  For reasons best known to himself the facing batsman decided on the 5^th ball of the over to go for it with no possibility of a run – allowing Gilbert to scoop the ball and throw to Mead to remove the stumps for a draw.  Great fielding from the team and great bowling - Mead taking 4 and Carley taking 3 with maidens from Nicholas (2) and Bryers (1).
