HAMPSHIRE LEAGUE SOUTH WEST DIV 3

Saturday 19th May 2012

Hythe 3's made hard work of their first win of the new season against Brockenhurst - Chasing 83 to win the Green Caps went from 72 for 5 to 83 for 9. Extras top scored for Hythe 33 in total including 15 byes and 13 wides.

Earlier Jonjo Stovell & Kev McCarthy took 3 wickets each whilst young Ali Bryers starred with 2 for 5 off 5.

Brockenhurst's groundsman only confirmed the game was on at 11am and when Tom Huxley won the toss there was only one option what to do

Ali Bryers and Jonjo Stovell opened the bowling for Hythe on a wicket that made divets with everyball. The game was only 4 overs old when Bryers had C.Greenwood caught behind by Gilbert for 0. 3 overs later and a double wicket over for Stovell - Goulding bowled for 7 and Finnegan well caught by Shrive for 0. Then when the first ball of the next over - Bryers caught & bowled Saunders for 0 - The Badgers were 15 for 4 off 8. Three overs later Stovell bowled Harvey for 7 - 19 for 5.

Bryers spell finished 5 overs 2-5 whilst Stovell ended 7 overs 3-19. Ian Prentice came into the attack and 2nd over had Sway ringer Richard Steadman judged LBW for 1. Brock 29-6. By drinks they had recovered slightly to 47 for 6. Kev McCarthy as misely as ever had to wait until his 6th over to get his first wicket when Page caught Harry Greenwood for 7. McCarthy struck again next over to bowl Tidman for 0 and Evans very well caught by Riley for 17. Sam Page finished it off bowling Topp for 0 - Brockenhurst all out for 82 in 33 overs. McCarthy finishing with 3-13 off 8.

After a lovely tea for a Saturday - Hythe's reply got off to a decent start through skipper Huxley and Nick Shrive. 15-0 off 3 with both players looking comfortable. But then Huxley fell bowled by Saunders for 5 in the 4th over. Shrive and Stovell added 18 for the 2nd wicket when the same bowler bowled Stovell for 11. Riley went for 11 and Stevens 2 and Hythe were 58 for 4 off 18. At drinks Shrive & Gilbert had taken the score to 71 and only another 12 needed. What was in the drinks certainly helped Brock and not Hythe. The next 30 minutes was mad. Gilbert was bowled by Tidman for 8 and then at 77 Shrive was caught by Steadman off Harry Greenwood for 11.Prentice fell for 2 with only 2 runs needed and Page was caught & bowled by the same bowler for 0. With the scores leve Bryers was bowled by Greenwood - his 5th wicket- leaving Chiverton and McCarthy the last pair to see Hythe home.

Facinating game but 19 points for Hythe only two more wins to avoid the drop.
