NEW FOREST UNDER 15 CUP (SOUTH)
FIRST ROUND
| NEW MILTON vs HYTHE U15'S |
Tuesday 22nd May
| Under 15's Knocked Out Of Cup |
Hythe Under 15's returned to Fernhill for the second time in nine days to face the strong New Milton side in the First Round of the Cup. Laced with Forest Rep players the Green & Golds have to be favourites for a league and cup double this summer so there's no surprise that they beat a Hythe side (missing several key players) by 61 runs.
New Milton won the toss and elected to bat first. Alex Nicholas and Ali Byers bowled a good opening spell on a decent track and only 18 came off the first five overs. But then O.Nicholls and B.New opened their arms and by the 9 over mark had moved onto 60 for 0. Sam Kelly's first over went for 12, Ben Fenton 13 and Nicholls reached 40 not out to retire. Hythe finally got a break through in the 10th over when Ben Fenton bowled B.New for 20 - NM 77 for 1.
That brought Crossley to the crease and he and Watts added 43 in just 5 overs as Carley went for 18 in one over and and the returning Kelly 14. With 3 overs to go Hythe did get asecond wicket when Byers bowled captain Watts for 11 but Tonkins hit a quick fire 18 - Crossley finished 31* and NM at the close 147 for 2.
With little chance of reaching their target the Hythe botsman had to go out and be positive. Sam Kelly opened with Archie Gilbert and 10 came off the first 3 overs. In the 4th Kelly was judged LBW off Mills for 5 and next over Gilbert was bowled by Drewett for 11. A 54 stand between Eliott Carley & Aleax Nicholas lead a mini recovery and at the 14th over Hythe had reached 71 before Nicholas fell for 14. With a ton the target Carley played one shot too many and was caught for a very good 32 which inc 5x4's. A mini collapse followed as both Harrison Smith & Billy Allan last two balls each.
No more wickets fell and Hythe finished on 86 for 6 with Byers 8* and Ben Fenton 0*. Hythe losing by 61 runs.
