PRE SEASON FRIENDLY
| HYTHE SUN XI vs SOUTHAMPTON WARRIERS |
Sunday 7th May
Cracker In The Gloom @ Jones Lane
 |
| Zac MILLAR 40 |
Hythe ruined Southampton Warriers 100% record for the season with a 2 run win in the gloom at Jones Lane. A delayed start meant a 30 over game starting at 4pm but it was well worth the wait for a good game of cricket and more importantly nuch needed match practice.
On a damp wicket Warriers won the toss and inserted Hythe who opened with James Page and Zac Millar. The first 6 overs saw 18 runs before Pagey was bowled by Bashir for 12. Mills soon followed for 1- Hythe 22 for 2. We then saw a partnership of 57 between Zac Millar and Sean Tongs in 13 overs before Tongs was caught for 22 trying to up the pace. Matt Howe went for 1 and Millar soon followed for a very good 40 - Hythe 75 for 5 off 25.
That brought Shaun Anderson to the crease who hit a quick fire 17 despite running out Archie Gilbert and himself in the process. The tail then crumbled and Hythe finished 111 all out. Krishna proved the best bowler for the Warriers 3-7 off 6 whilst their were also two wicket for Singh.
Rob Saunders opened the bowling with Josh Mead and Anderson and the pair created a good contest against the batting of Ram and Zia. Just 21 came off the first 10 overs and it took Andersons last over to get the much needed breakthough - three in fact.
First he had Zia judged LBW for 9 then he had Himmatt very well caught by Archie Gilbert behind. Two balls later Deepak was well caught by James Page and Warriers had slumped to 25 for 3 off 12. Anderson finishing 3-4 whilst Mead deserved better 0-18 off 6. Azad was the next to go - caught by Mills off McCarthy for 7, SW- 41-4 off 18
Mehmud joined Ram to add 29 in just 5 overs - 42 now needed off 6 overs. Saunders bowled Ram for 28, Bilal and Mehmud then added 15 in 3 overs before a great low diving catch by Millar dismissed Mehmud for 21. 23 needed off 3 turned to 10 needed off the final over. Bit Super Kev held his nerve and with 4 needed off the final ball the Warriers run one before Bilal was run out by Josh Mead for 10 going for a second.
2 run win for the Green Caps and a very good game - well done to the Warriers for their participation in it.
