New Forest Under 9 League

Friday 4th May

With the game switched to Thornberry Avenue to get the game on - Hythe Under 9's began their league campaign with a comfortable 57 run win over arch rivals Fawley.

In bitterly cold conditions the Young Green Caps won the toss and captain Joe Mould elected to bat first. Andrew Besley and Daniel Brown opened for Hythe and kept their wickets in tact as the first pair finished on 222 (+22).

The second pairing of Joe Mould and Hayden Cooper despite not scoring anything off the bat put on the best partnership of 28. Proves what can happen if you don'ty give your wicket away.

Caitlin Smith and Ben Jones then added 24 for the 3rd pairing . Caitlin top scored with 6 whilst Ben scored 5 but was out once (total 0)

Fair play to the Fawley youngsters they kept going and were enjoying their first outing of the season. They did get another wicket when Monty Gilbert stepped back and hit his stumps but the 4th pairing of Gilbert (-4) and Dan Jones (5) still managed to add another 25 for the final pairing - Hythe 299 for 2 innings closed.

Hythe were now in with a good chance providing they bowled and fielded well and they did just that. Dan Jones & Caitlin Smith both claimed clean bowleds whilst Monty Gilbert took an excellent catch off the bowling of Andrew Besley.

Fawley did well only to lost 3 wickets but Hythe run out winners by 57 runs to give Zac's side an opening day victory.

Well done to everyone - the improvement in the lads batting and bowling since January remarkable but a long way to go. Well done too to Fawley for a good game in cold weather conditions.
