THIS WEEKEND BACK IN TIME

With the weather likely to play havoc once again with this weekends fixtures

~ Here's what happened on the same weekend 6 - 11- 19 years ago as we prepared for the new season.

2006

In a season where Simon Dixon's First XI finished 5th in County 2 and Mike Bowman's 2nd XI - 5th in South West 3 ~ a Hythe XI travelled down to Wimbourne for their annual fixture. Playing at the lovely old Wimbourne ground which will be remembered by all because you had to go outside in your toweI to the showers.

A fixture that you never know what type of opposition you'll be facing, a pretty strong Hythe beat the Dorset by 8 wickets.

Hythe XI 141-2 (S.Tongs 57*, B.Kendrick 56, D.Guymer 13*) Beat Wimborne 140 all out (S.Wright 3-9 (above), P.Whitlock 3-20, G.Grobler 2-27) by 8 Wkts

2001

2001 Whit's finest year as captain when the First XI won County 4 with an unblemished record of 13-0, a Hythe XI travelled down to Ledbury Road to face a Mudeford side that was marching up the leagues at a rapid pace.

Good start for the Green Caps as Northy broke down on the Ringwood bypass and rung Jane to come and wait with the car for the AA.

Hythe had hoped to have South African Eugene Burzler on debut but his flight was delayed.

Whits gave all ghis bowlers ago and still manage to reduce seasiders to 188 which with Hythe's batting proved 30 light.

Hythe XI 190-6 (S.Wright 41, I.Kenworthy 39, W.Effeny 34*, R.James 28) Beat Mudeford 188-9 (W.Effeny 4-23, S.Chiverton 2-54) by 4 Wkts

1993

Hythe First XI finished 8th in County 4 in 1993.

Their opening friendly was a time game against Hyde Ramblers which will be remembered for a fantastic 109* from Dr.Ben Kendrick (above) which included 13x4's & 5x6's and assisted by 58* (6x4's 2x6's) from Ian Tinson who opened for Bishops Waltham against Hythe last weekend.

Note who spearheaded of the bowling attack.

Hythe XI 201-1 (B.Kendrick 109*, I.Tinson 58*, R.Hill 20) Drew Hyde Ramblers 152-6 (S.Tongs 3-31, B.Kendrick 2-21)
