Pagey Tipped For Runs

Received a letter from Hythe Legend - Alan Wiltshire today who expressed his sadness on hearing the death of local lad Pete Vicarey last month.

Pete a Life Member of the club - was in the same year at school as myself and played in the first ever Hythe Colts side run by Alan. Sadly a year after leaving school Pete was a passenger in a car accident that overturned the car and confined him to a wheel chair for the rest of his life. Pete being the positive person he was didn't let his disability hinder his love for sport and he turned to Archery and represented Great Britain at several events. Alan recalls 'Pete was a great lad and a useful cricketer especially good in the field'.

Alan (who lives in Romsey) played for the club between 1958 - 1989 - scoring over 6,875 runs in the process. He still trys to get down to a few games a season where he loves to reflect on old times. Alan wished the club all the success for the new season. He added ' From what I saw last year there are some basic ideas that need to be worked on. For example your sides need to bat out their share of the overs. Quite often a game is decided by a handful of runs. For young inexperienced bowlers I think older players would generally agree that it's a good idea if they could direct the field they want, which may well have been worked out with the captain beforehand'.

Alan also had time to pick his player to watch this season - Sorry Pagey you've been cursed. Alan says 'I would go for James Page. He is unorthodox but let him do it his way. He also very much dislikes getting out and has plenty of confidence'.
