Hythe 1's vs Paultons
| Brave Effort But Paultons Too Good |
A brave effort from Hythe 1's couldn't prevent them going down by 3 wickets to Champions Paultons. Hythe batted first and posted a very competative 157 all out thanks to Harry Smith 27, Matt Young 27 and Rob James 24. But Paultons ability to pick off and run the 3's gave them the edge.
Hythe lost the toss and put in by Paultons - The Green Caps got off to a cracking start as Harry Smith laid into Ennew. But 2nd over Paultons got the early breakthrough when James Page was bowled by Collins for 2. Smith hit a double quick 25 to retire and then Hythe lost Guymer - run out for 6.
56 for 2 off 6 Hythe needed to up the pace and Rob James and Matt Young obliged. James hit 24 before being run out. Young then retired 25*. 110 for 3 at 9 overs. Matt Howe was caught off Richman for 6 - the returning Smith and Young could only add a couple more each to their total and Hythe were bowled all out for 157 with 1 ball remaining.
So at the half way stage with 3 bonus points each - Hythe knew they needed to bowl Paultons out. Hythe started well with very little given away in extras. Collins and Ennew added 36 before Ennew was run out for 10. Richman & O'Brien came in and as Collins went out 25 retired and gave a masterclass in finding the gaps top run 3's. Both players retired as Paultons moved into three figures in the 8th over.
Hythe never gave up and got a double breakthrough - Rob James caught 7 bowled Pike for a duck with a very good catch. Then Matt Young had Mr. Attitude Pike Lbw for a duck. - 112 for 3 off 9.
Collins and O'Brien returned and picked off the runs required to win and becoame champs. But a brave effort by Hythe who gave it a real go.
