Hythe Under 11's vs WELLOW & PLAITFORD

Played @ Houndsdown School

Under 11's Finally Beaten In Nail Biter

Hythe Under 11's were beaten in the battle of the 100%'ers when they went down by 3 runs to Wellow & Plaitford on Friday evening.

Tom Jones small

With an unbeaten record the under 11s went into the top of the table clash against Wellow with confidence. Skipper Fenton lost the toss and Wellow decided to bat first.

Hythe opened the Bowling with Jones bowled a solid first over which only went for 2. Fenton had the second and like Jones his first wall was his hat-trick ball, unfortunately it was edged and the batsman ran for 3. The first wicket fell to an outstanding bit of fielding from the wicket keeper Ladbury, with an edge that hit the back net Ladbury collected te ball and through with one stump to aim at and ran out Fisher for 6. Jones picked up the second wicket on Crossland with a ball that hit the top of off stump.

Smith bowled his first over which went for 7 but he showed good control with the ball. The most unlucky bowler on the night was Taylor who managed to get his final ball of his over to hit leg stump but the bails filed to fall. Ferrier bowled a solid over that went for only 4 runs. The third wicket fell  to Ferrier but from the field, another direct hit after hitting umpire Woods at square leg.

Fenton and Jones bowled out the innings with the final wicket fallng in the form of a run out angain from a direct hit from Smith. Jones finished with figures on 1-11 (14 dot balls). Hythe were fantastic in the field, 5 direct hits over the course of the night, good energy and only one miss field. Wellow’s coach at the end had said that he thought the fielding was brilliant after the game and it really kept their score down. Wellow 69-4

The Green Caps opened the batting with Jones and Ladbury. The pair looked to build a good opening partnership with Ladbury facing up first. In his innings Ladbury hit 1 four and picked up a three, and Jones picked up 2 threes. In what was a controlled and important partnership for Hythe the pair put on 54. Jones was out caught for 15 and Ladbury out caught for 12.

With the opening pair occupying the crease for so long Fenton and Smith had to try and get in and secure the game for Hythe, from what was a winnable position. The final over came and 4 was needed, it was brilliantly bowled by Fisher and only went for 1 as Fenton was forced to defend. The story for the batting was probably not enough looking for runs in terms for running between the wicket. Hythe 67-2
