Hythe Under 11's vs Totton & Eling

Played @ Houndsdown School

3 out of 3 and the Under 11s show they mean business in the League

Not many times as a club we can say this - but Hythe Under 11s beat Totton & Eling on Friday evening after bowling the young Eeels out for just 17 - Hythe winning by 50 runs.

Tom Jones

After the 2 friendly’s Hythe & Dibden under 11s faced their first league game against a Totton & Eling side that have on 3 occasions made scores of over 85. With players running late a decision was taken that Hythe would bat first to try and buy time on a game scheduled on Friday the 13th.

Smith and Fenton opened the batting as Hythe had to start the innings with the 4 present padded up. Both looked like they were ready to get Hythe off to a good start before Smith fell in the second over, clean bowled by Young for 3. Fenton soon followed after a mix up in the running causing him to be run out for 3.

In at 3 was Ferrier and at number 4 was Taylor. The pair set about building a partnership that was worth 26. Taylor hit 2 fours straight down the ground and Ferrier was finding the gaps in the field to pick up singles off the wall. It was Taylor who eventually fell for 10, bowled by Clark. This brought Jones who had quickly padded up but this was in vain as he was bowled for 2 by Corty.

This left Ferrier and the new batsman Ladbury to see out the final 3 overs. The pair began to look at trying to build the score with Ferrier continuing to find the gaps and Ladbury pushing the ball around. The pair managed to put on 24 together to finish 67-4 with Ladbury on 7 and Ferrier top scoring with 11 not out.

Hythe & Dibden 67 for 4 innings closed.

What was to follow with Hythe bowling Chiv has described as ‘the best bowling I’ve seen from a colts side indoors’.

Hythe opened the bowling with Jones who was bowling at an opener who had made plenty of scores already indoors. His first over went for 5 with good fielding from Fenton and Taylor, a run out finally came after the ball was thrown around the team before Ladbury took the bails off, 5-1.

Fenton bowled the second over and it was one of the best bowled in a Hythe shirt. 1st ball on the way to hitting the top of off stump with the batsman almost playing it on, second ball down leg (doesn’t appeal for a nicked ball taken by Ladbury), third ball back just outside off stump and a forth ball that nipped back in line with off stump. With an over that could test any batsman the fifth ball was the quicket one and cleaned Bound’s stumps up, 5-2. The final ball of the over nipped back as well and caught the top of off resulting in Corty being bowled first ball, 5-3. Double wicket maiden indoors.

To follow Ferrier bowled an excellent over of his own with balls challenging the batsman and forcing defensive shots. Smith came on to bowl the forth over and after being hit for 4 on the 3rd ball came back to have Young caught by Fenton for 4, 14-4.

Jones then began his second over and decided to get in on the act. He started the over with a single which was well fielded by Ferrier, and a second that forced the batsman into a defensive shot. The third ball was special hitting the top of off in what was a well deserved wicket, 17-5. Jones had decided that Fenton would have to wait 2 weeks to try and get his hat-trick and added himself to the candidates list for the first colt to get a hat-trick indoors. His final ball nipped back and hit the top of middle, 17 all out.

In what was a dominant display by the under 11s bowling attack Totton and Eling were bowled out for 17 in just 4.4 overs. Fenton and Jones both on hat-tricks for the next game, all the lads getting a good game and only 3 wides were bowled meaning Hythe should go joint top with Wellow in the League.
