Hythe Under 11's vs O.T's & ROMSEY
Played @ Houndsdown School
| Under 11's Pull Off Second Indoor Win |
In the final friendly, before the Under 11s take part in the second round of league games, they faced the tough task of playing OTs & Romsey - another of the Southern League's Focus Clubs .

S Fenton lost the toss and Hythe were put into bat first. The green caps opened the batting with T Ferrier and K Taylor. Ferrier faced the first over and picking up 4 runs for Hythe before Taylor was out in the second over scoring 1. F Smith came to the crease at number 3 but Ferrier unfortunately couldn’t build on his score and was caught out for 2.
Hythe were 11-2 after 3 overs and W Ladbury was in at number 4. Smith and Ladbury started to build a partnership taking the green caps to 42-2 before Ladbury was out caught for 9. Skipper Fenton was next in and confusion between him and smith resulted in smith being run out for 9. Last man in for Hythe was T Jones and along with Fenton they began to really push the score on.
Jones was run out for 7 but along with Fenton they managed to add 32 runs together with 20 runs coming from the last over. Smart running between the pair meant they were even looking for extra runs off the last ball but Fenton ended up run out for 18. Hythe score 75 all out
Fresh from his batting performance Fenton opened the bowling allowing 6 off his first over. Jones took the second with 7 coming from it. The third over was bowled by Taylor and after 3 wides he found his line and length and bowled 3 very good deliveries, one of which almost grabbed a wicket. Ferrier bowled the forth over and whilst 7 came from it only one wide was bowled and the batsman were beginning to establish themselves.
When smith came on in the fifth over OTs were cruising towards a victory, that was until Smith’s forth ball – Taylor taking an excellent catch off the wall. Taylor got the second wicket in the form of a run out in what was an extremely impressive display by all the lads in the field, plenty of runs saved by good fielding. Jones picked up the 3rd wicket of B Wattan who had racked up 14 with an excellent caught and bowled.
The pressure was on as Hythe had begun o turn the game around. Fenton bowled his final 2 overs and finished his 3 overs for 20 runs. Smith bowled the penultimate over with the second ball being a high full toss that was hit for 6 – 8 runs in total with no all as well. Smith wasn’t deterred and kept his cool to bowl out the rest of his over. OT’s needed 10 off the last over to win and Jones was to bowl it. The first ball went for 3 before Jones got Lurther into trouble with a shorter ball which ballooned up to Fenton who swallowed it. Jones then bowled 3 dot balls before the batsman ran 2 on the final ball.- OT’s & Romsey 71-4
