Hythe Under 14's vs SARISBURY ATH

Played @ Fleming Park

A battling 46 from Ben Fenton couldn't prevent Hythe Under 14's from going down by 4 runs to Sarisbury Ath this evening.

Ben FENTON 46

Hythe Under 14s went into their 4^th league game of the season with a tough fixture against Sarisbury. Skipper Archie Gilbert won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Ben Fenton opened the bowling with his first over going for 10 runs and then his second for 13. Jake Larkin opened from the other end and bowled his 3 overs through, picking up the wicket of Boule for 14 with a good catch off the wall as well, however he went for 49 in his 3 overs in total. Sam Kelly replaced Fenton and bowled his 3 overs through going for 21 without picking up a wicket in what was a good spell of fast accurate bowling.

Hythe’s leading indoor wicket taker so far this season came on in place of Larkin and it didn’t take him long to pick up another wicket for his indoor tally, Duncan for 11 caught Kelly. Pike’s first 2 overs went for only 8 but it was his 3^rd that impacted his figures, the final over of the innings, which went for 26 in total meaning he finished with 1-34. Jacob Mould bowled 1 over but against Sarisburys lead runs scorer, Robinson 45 not out, he struggled and went for 15. Good fielding meant the green caps picked up 3 run outs, Mould, Pike and Gilbert. Sarisbury ending 145-5

Hythe opened the batting with Archie Gilbert and Sam Kelly but it wasn’t long before Kelly was run out for nothing. Oliie Pike was in at number 3 and together with Gilbert they began to build a decent partnership. Unfortunately this ended when Pike was run out for 13 with the pair making 52 for the 2^nd wicket.

Jacob Mould came in at 4 but was making his way back shortly afterwards with another run out for nothing. Out stepped Ben Fenton to join Gilbert at the crease to try and steady the game for Hythe. However, Gilbert was run out after a lucky bounce of the back wall meant the fielder could walk in and take the bails off. Gilbert made 21 in what was another impressive innings.

With Hythe collapsing from 54-1 to 63-4 Jake Larkin stepped out as the last man to bat with Larkin. They set about getting the extra 83 runs for victory knowing that their wickets were the last for Hythe. Positive running and clever batting meant they were starting to show the green caps weren’t ready to give this game up yet. Larkin was then run out for 12 but knew the game wasn’t over and kept going to support Fenton. Ben Fenton kept pushing the ball into the gaps and Larking kept calling him through for quick singles with Larkin lucky not to be run out again if it was not for a fielder obstructing the umpires view. The final over came and Hythe needed 16 to win with 2 3s, a quick run 2, byes and a wide Hythe needed 5 off the last ball. Fenton went for the big shot and made a good connecting, unfortunately it hit the ceiling and he was caught out for 46 in what was a thrilling and top class innings at any level of cricket.
