Under 14s Shock Burridge

 Archie Small
Archie GILBERT 25*

Hythe’s newest indoor team last night got their first victory with a 31 run win over Southern Premier league club Burridge.

Captain Archie Gilbert lost the toss and Hythe were inserted into bat against a side with 2 district players and one county player.

With Ollie's Mum thinking it was a 5:15 start, Hythe opened with Gilbert and Freddie Molyneux. After 7 runs were scored from a no ball and a wide Molyneux was run out without facing. In at number 3 was Jacob Mould and between him and Gilbert they started to amass the runs building a partnership of 33 before Mould was given out LBW for 0 – runs coming mainly from wides.

The next batsman was Tom Ladbury and in his first indoor game he quickly got to grips with how to score runs. Gilbert was forced to retire for a very good 25 including a crunching 4. Ben Fenton stepped out to replace Gilbert but was unlucky as he left his first ball which turned and he was bowled round his legs by Wilkinson.

In the nick of time Pike had arrived and had to hurry to get his pads on. He joined Ladbury at the crease and they quickly went about piling the runs on for Hythe. Ladbury finished with a score of 23 not out and Pike finished with 19 not out in a day in which the green caps batsman got ducks or not outs.

Score Set 140-3. Burridge needed 141 to win.

Hythe’s bowlers had to remember to bowl straight and with no wides and they would push Burridge for a win. Ben Fenton opened the bowling and went for 13 in the first over. Tom Ladbury bowled the second and also went of 13 in his first and then bowled his 3 overs through for 31-0 with the last over only going for 8 runs.

First change was for Fenton, so he could bowl the final over, and this brought Pike into the attack (fresh off the back of his 4 for last week). Pike instantly put the pressure on Burridge by taking the wicket of Wilkinson for 14 with some good work from Gilbert. For the second week running Pike bowled exceptionally well picking up a second wicket in his last over and finishing with brilliant figures of 3 overs 14-2.

Jacob Mould bowled 2 overs, the second only going for 7 runs and with his excellent fielding he showed his worth indoors. Freddie Molyneux was a surprise with the ball, for someone who wasn’t too confident about bowling he showed great promise. In what was his only over, the penultimate one, he went for only 4 runs with what looked like a very solid action.

Fenton bowled the final over with Burridge needing 50 to win. Fenton first bowled out Marshall and then had Sharpley caught by Mould at mid-off. This capped of an excellent evenings work for the Green caps and picked up the first indoor win for the 2011/2012 indoor season.
