ASHURST vs HYTHE SUNDAY XI
Sunday 18th August
Hythe Lose Twenty20 Amongst The Showers
 |
| Harry SMITH -58 |
Persistant heavy showers brought the players on and off the field several times. In the end they had a very early tea and afterwards played out a twenty20. Harry Smith captained the side in the late absence of Rob Saunders.
Ashurst batted first and were put in a strong position after Sarisbury's Southern League star - Andy Reading and J.Wicks put on 94 for the first wicket in just 10 overs. Wicks made 44 before being bowled by Zac Millar who then claimed the scalp of Ashurst skipper I.Cox in the same over. By 14 overs Ashurst had moved onto 121 for 2 - then Barry Stovell had S.Park stumped by Archie Gilbert for 17. - Ashurst 128 for 3.
Reading 58* and R.Hodder 6* saw out the final overs to set Hythe 153 to win. Hythe's best bowler Millar 2-23 but most economical Sean Tongs 0-3 off 2.
Hythe took to crease with Matt Young opening with Zac Millar. In the first over after one appeal turned down Prassad had Matt Young judged LBW for 0. Skipper Smith and Zac Millar then added 99 for the 2nd wicket with Harry Smith making 58 which included 1x6 and 2x4's. Hythe 102 for 1 at 14 when Smith was judged LBW. Carley came in to be bowled for 0 first ball then Archie Gilbert faced the hat trick ball only to be bowled. Hythe 103 for 4.
With 44 needed off 5 overs Hythe needed to step up a gear but Millar was then bowled by Bates who followed it up with the LBW of Stevens for 3. Tongs and guest Charlie Brennan then added 13 before Brennan was bowled by Reading for 3. Hythe finished on 126 for 7 with Tongs 12* and Knight-Owen 1*.
Good game played in great spirit - Thanks to Ashurst for persevering through the breaks to get a game on.
One game left at Westbourne next week - If anyone's available let us know.
