Hampshire County Division 2
Saturday 28th August
HYTHE 1's LOSE AS ROWLEDGE PROMOTED
 |
| Ben KENDRICK 33 |
Hythe First XI's frustrating season came to an end with a 55 run defeat. Whilst the Green Caps will play their league cricket in County 3 next year - Rowledge will be County 1 after finishing in second place behind Hook.
Hythe won the toss and elected to field first. Hythe soon had the homeside in trouble at 25 for 3 with Rich Froggett taking two of the wickets. By 12 overs Rowledge had recovered to 58 for 3 but then Froggett removed Armstrong 3. A 5th wicket partnership of 85 between Morant and Martin took the score to 143 before Morant was caught of Edwards for 74.
Three more wickets fell in quick succession to leave Rowledge 159-8 off 36 (both off the bolwing of Harry Smith). Jeggeo and J.Smith added 43 for the 9th wicket to frustrate Hythe before Froggett and Moore returned to to the final wickets. - Rowledge 220 all out. Richie Froggett seasons best 4-31.
Hythe with nothing to lose swapped their batting order around with Matt Young and Ewan Bell opening. With only 8 on the board Bell was back in the hutch and Hythe again struggled as they lost their first 5 wickets for just 65. Matt Howe and Ben Kendrick then added 61 for the 6th wicket before Kendrick fell for 33. His innings included 2x6's. Howe then went for 30 and the tail soon followed - Hythe all out for 165 and a 55 run defeat.
17th place, relegation but hopefully enough ability in the side for a quick return.
