Smith & Richards Seal Close Win For Green Caps

Harry SMITH 62

As always - another entertaining game between the Sunday XI and Bramshaw went down to the wire before Hythe won with 9 balls remaining. Chasing 226 Hythe were indepted to a 102 - 7th wkt partnership between Harry Smith 62 & Tom Richards 45* for the win. Smiths knock included 2x6's & 6x4's - Richards 1x6 & 4x4's.

With the Colonel back in charge Hythe lost the toss and were sent into the field. With 270 a par score at Roundhills, the Hythe lads were hoping that the mid day showers would assist them in some way. Hythe included Tom Barge in the side for his one game a season and Rob De Jong Croucheys mate. The pait opened the bowling and their 5 overs each proved economical. Barge took the wicket of J.Arnold 8 in the 9th over - caught by Matt Young and ended with 1-17 off 5. De Jong also finished 5 overs 0-17. Bramshaw push the score along to 63 before the second wkt fell - Phil Curl bowled by Smith 20. Stovell then bowled M.Alford (century maker in last seasons fixture) for 28. - Bramshaw 75 for 3 off 18.

With Bramshaw skipper Tim Rogers now at the crease things were likely to pick up. He and C.Mason added 80 in 80 overs before Mason was caught by Millar off Stovell for 17. Briggs was then LBW for 0 off Richards. 9x4's & 7x6's Rogers smashed before being stumped by Young off Millar for 92. Saunders then bowled Barner for 10 and Millar had T.Mason caught by JKO for 10 - Bramshaw finishing on 226 for 8.

With lovely blue sky Hythe opened with Zac Millar and Matt Young - both looked in good shape with some lovely shots to the boundary before Young did one of his yes yes no's and Millar was run out ofr 16 with the score on 34. Bell was then bowled for 9 and soon after Miaar took revenge by triggering Young for 38 (or so we thought) Tim Rogers fielding at sleep later said it was plumb and the correct decision. 48 in 6 overs was then added between J.Knight-Owen and Rob Saunders. Jack hitting his first ever senior six before being bowled for 19. Saunders fell in similar fashion for 16 and when new bot de Jong was bowled for 7 Hythe looked beaten at 120 for 6 off 25.

That brought together Harry Smith and Tom Richards. Both players starting their knocks very cautiously. Hythe now needed 76 off 10 as Smith opened up with a six and four. With 5 overs remaining Hythe needed 37 - Smith reached his fifty with a single and not to be out done Richards then smashed his first six. With 9 balls remaining Hythe reached their target but not before Smith was judged LBW for 62. Hythe win by 3 wkts in another excellent game of cricket..
