Hythe Seal Woodhouse Trophy With 9 Wkt Win Over Oilers
 |
Well done to Sam Mead and his young side as they won the Tony Woodhouse Trophy with two games still unplayed. They remain unbeaten throughout the tournament - winning 3 and drawing 2 with 1 postponed.
Hythe needing 17 points to take the trophy - skipper Sam Mead asked a depleted Fawley to bat first. Brother Josh took the wicket of Dean Head in the first over as Fawley struggled. 8 overs in and bowling partner Ali Bryers then dismissed Burbidge and Joy in the same over. Fawley 12-3. In the 10th over Josh came off for Richard Jones and he also produced two wickets in an over - bowling both Howarth and Pothecary. Jones then bowled Francis and the Oilers were 23 for 6.
Ian McElhenny 48 and Lawrence Read 14 did make a recovery but wickets by Sam and Josh Mead 2 and a run out saw Fawley bowled out for 106 in 37.3 overs.
Hythe in reply were always comfortable as Elliott Carley and Zac Millar shared a 80 run opening partnership. Millar was the only wicket to fall for a fine 56. Young joined Carley and by the 19th over Hythe had secured the win and the title.
