PHIL PICK TROPHY

HYTHE UNDER 13's vs LANGLEY MANOR 'A'

25th July @ Jones Lane

Under 13's Win Trophy For Woody & Phil

Hythe Under 13's pp

At the end of an emotional weekend - Hythe Under 13's pulled off a special performance to win the Phil Pick Trophy.

The annual game against Langley Manor (who beat Hythe only five days earlier) saw a good crowd turn up to see the young Green Caps put in a awesome performance with the bat. - 135 for 1 off their 18 overs. Hythe then bowled Langley out for 69 to win by 66 runs.

9 years the trophy has been running - Langley Manor won the first 6 - Hythe have now run it three years running.

The Hythe lads wore black arm bands in respect for Woody and skipper Ali Bryers sad their great performance was certainly motivated by the sad loss of their Chairman and Friend.

Langley Manor won the toss and elected to put Hythe into bat. Something Hythe certainly weren't use to doing. After a pep talk from Hux and Mrs G - Hythe opened with Ollie Pike and Archie Gilbert. The Green Caps got off to a cracking start - 30 off 5 when Pike was bowled by James for 9.

Gilbert continued to dominate the Langley bowlers and reached his retirement (30*) in only the 7th over. Hythe 41 -1 off 7. That brought in Jacob Mould to join skipper Ali Bryers and the pair proceeded to add 71 in the next 10 overs before both had to retire. Mould 31* and Bryers 30*. Freddie Molyneux 10* and Ben Fenton 2* saw out the final over - Hythe finishing on an impressive 135 for 1. M.James was the pick of LM's bowling attack - 1-23 off 4.

After a lovely buffet provided by the parents - Hythe took to the field heavier than they were 20 minutes before. With only the second ball Bryers bowled Housen for a duck and when Fenton had Leggett LBW for 6 - LM were struggling at 11 for 2. By the 7th over three more LM wickets had fallen - Bryers bowled Lee for 0, Gilbert stumped Bancroft for 2 off Larkin then Gilbert caught Healy off Larkin for 0.

Jones and McCarthy added 28 to took the score to 49 off 10 until Pike bowled Jones for 19 and then next bowled Basil for 0. 49-7. Pike took a third wicket in the 12th over - having the dangerous McCarthy stumped by Gilbert for 28. Gilbert then wrapped up a fine evening by running out Jenkinson for 7 in the 13th over. LM all out for 69.

As tradition in the Phil Pick Trophy the two coaches voted for the opposing teams man of the match. Tom chose Ben McCarthy as LM's man of the match for his fine 28. Rob the Langley Manor Coach had a more difficult choice to make - Ali Bryers made 30* and 2-13, Archie Gilbert scored 30* and took a catch, 2 stumpings and run out. Ollie Pike took 3-24 and then there was Jacob Mould (a year younger than the others) who also scored 31*. Rob chose Hythe's man of the match award as Archie Gilbert.
