HYTHE UNDER 11's vs WELLOW & PLAITFORD

4th July @ Jones Lane

Hythe Under 11s write History as they Cruise into the Finals of a Colts cup for the first time in 20 years

Sam CARLEY 3-10 & 21*

In a much anticipated semi final match Hythe under 11s took on Wellow for a place in the finals. Tom Knight-Owen won the toss on the second attempt, after the first landed in the grass with the coin on its side, and chose the field first. Hythe opened the bowling with Sam Fenton and he picked up the wicket of Mashall clean Bowled. Sam Carley opened the Bowling from the other end and added to Hythe’s early success with 2 more wickets, both clean bowled.

The first change bowlers for Hythe were Lewie Fay and Tom Knight-Owen. Both had to wait until their second overs to pick up wickets. Fay bowled a double wicket Maiden both clean bowled and then Knight-Owen picked up the wicket of the danger man Williams who top scored with 22. Hythe’s second change bowlers were Tom Jones and Sam Copley with both bowling well and Jones picking up the wickets on Eason.

Hythe then turned back to the opening bowlers to finish Wellow off and Fenton picketd up his second wicket bowling Reynolds for 1. The 9th wicket also fell to Fenton bowling Cater for 1 which left Carley to take the final wicket of Barnes. The fielding again was brilliant with credit going to Chris Kemp, Sam Jesney, Fraser Smith and Robbie Bassett for supporting what was a dominant Hythe bowling performance. Wicket Keeper Will Ladbury also had an excellent day behind the stumps only letting 3 byes through and extras for the innings all together was only 12, a marked improvement on 110 extras against sway.

Wellow 48 all out.

After a half time team talk and a fantastic spread put on by Mrs Fay and Mrs Froggett Hythe went about looking for the 49 runs for victory. Hythe opened the batting with Sam Jessney and Sam Carley. The first over was seen out well by Jessney but unfortunately at the start of the second over he was bowled by Barnes which meant Lewie Fay came to the crease.

Fay and Carley began to hit runs freely, both opening their accounts with 4s, and keeping the scoreboard ticking over. Unfortunately the pair couldn’t see it home with Fay being run out for 8 (1x4) which meant Will Ladbury was in at number 4. Ladbury and Carley were quick to settle any nerves and built a steady partnership. With Ladbury hitting singles, Carley at the other end hit several cracking shots through the covers, point and mid wicket to show that he is just as good with the bat as he is with the ball.

Unfortunately the winning runs came from wides but Hythe had done the damage with the ball earlier in the day. With all 11 players looking ever more like cricketers Hythe and Dibden under 11s make the final of a colts cup competition final for the first time since 1991 when the under 16s finished runners up.

The Cup final date is Saturday the 3rd of September and the game will start at 10:00am at Langley Manor. All from the club are welcome to come along and support the Under 11s as they search for the first Colts cup since 1990.
