HYTHE UNDER 17's vs TOTTON & ELING
Thursday 30th June 2011

Harry Smith 3-19
UNBEATEN TOTTON & ELING UNDER 17’s GIVEN A SCARE.
It was with some trepidation that Hythe & Dibden’s under 17’s looked forward to the visit of Totton & Eling’s unbeaten side. Because of our usual problem of putting a side together, Matt Young “ pulled a rabbit out of the hat” and introduced Tom Arnold, a friend at Brockenhurst College and ex team mate from the New Forest Academy
Totton & Eling batted first, and a good opening partnership was developing until Keiran Chalmers bowled the excellent Tom Beresford for just 14 (a very good scalp). Peruzih joined Mooney and another good partnership looked on the cards. Jordan Blandford playing in his first under 17 match then had the hard hitting Peruzih caught behind by Young for 11. Hythe continued to bowl and field well with wickets falling periodically. Mooney was the stalwart of the Totton & Eling innings and was eventually stumped by Young off Harry Smith for a hard fought 48. Smith finished with 3 for 19. Totton & Eling completed their 18 overs at 103 – 7. A bit of a surprise for them!!
Hythe & Dibden’s innings could not have got off to a worse start when Rides bowled the usually prolific Harry Smith for 0. Tom Arnold joined Keiran Chalmers at the crease but Keiran also fell victim to Rides. Matt Young at number 4 joined Arnold and the two of them batted sensibily and steadily and built the innings from 7–2 up to 80-2. Tom Arnold showed us what a talent he is and had it not been for the 50 compulsory retiring score the outcome of the match could have been so different. Matt Young tried to pick up the pace but the innings was by now wilting. Matt was caught for a hard fought 25 and Todd Powell chipped in with 6 not out. Hythe ran out of overs and finished at 96 – 6. Totton & Eling won by 7 runs.
This was a good performance by Hythe with a big improvement in the bowling and particularly in fielding on the boundaries. Extras were kept to a minimum and another feature in the game was there were no byes by either side; this reflects well on the bowling. It must be said that Tom Arnold’s contribution to the game was significant.
