SOTON TRAVELLERS 2nd XI Vs HYTHE 3rd XI

Saturday 25th June

Patience The Key As Hythe 3's Win by 9 Wkts

Kev JAMES 52*

Hythe 3rd XI earned a well deserved 22 points with a 9 wicket win at Lordshill over Soton Travellers 2nd XI. The toss was crucial and Hythe reduced the home side to 130 for 6. Kev James & Nick Shrive for the second successive game enjoyed a ton opening partnership to set up the win.

Jonjo Stovell won the toss and had no hesitation in putting the opposition into bat. Hythe had to wait until the 4th over to get their first wicket when Super Kev bowled Langley for 0. Stovell came off after 3 overs feeling ill to be replaced by Chiverton. 9 overs in and Chiverton bowled Loades for 6. - Travellers 13 for 2. McCarthy then bowled Allen for 9 - 31 for 3. M.Philips was the main stay of the Travellers batting and was going to take something special to budge him. He and Oxford 20 added 67 for the 4th wicket before Oxford retired injured. Probably a good tactical move by the travellers because the 67 took 25 overs to achieve thanks to some tight bowling. McCarthy was his usual tight self - 8 overs 2-9 and Ian Prentice 9 overs for 23.

Tom Huxley continued the holding job - his 5 overs deserved better figures tahn 0-17 as Keir and Philips chased runs. Stovell then brought on the speed kids for the final overs Ali Bryers taking 1-18 off 4 and Alex Nicholas 2-16 off 3 as they helped the Green Caps to 3 bowling points. Travellers finishing on 130 for 6 with Philips 41*.

Hythe opened with Kev James and Nick Shrive with patience the key early on. Only 6 runs came off the first 6 overs (probably all the tea Kev ate) but by 10 overs the score had moved onto 25 for 0. Baddela and Chouldhary put in a good opening spell for the Travellers before both were replaced by the 13th over. Travellers skipper Loades shuffled the bowling around looking for that first wicket. At drinks Hythe had moved onto 74 for 0. Shrive not quite as fluent as the OT's gave a couple of half chances as his innings picked up gear. The 100 partnership came up in the 25th over but three overs later the stand was broken when Shrive was bowled by Baddela for another valuable innings of 32. Stovell joined Kev James who then brought up a fine fifty - and in the 32nd over Hythe achieved the 9 wkt win. James 52* - Stovell 13*.

A fine win for the Green Caps and with a couple more wins - you never know another season in South West 3 could be possible. Thanks to Woodsy for scoring.
